'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lescott Holds His Hands Up

Joleon Lescott looked thoroughly fed up at the end of City's disappointing 2-2 draw on Sunday. To his credit he has accepted responsibility for his part in the Fulham comeback...

'It was probably my fault that Dempsey got a header and that is something I will try to address. We are all professionals and can take criticism. No one was pointing the finger at me in the dressing room but I point the finger at myself because I know I can do better.'

Lescott has certainly had something of a rough ride this season. Adverse publicity over his departure to City from nosediving Everton was swiftly followed by cockney England fans boo-ing him relentlessly at Wembley for coming on as a substitute whilst that great leg-end David Beckham remained benched.

This was swiftly followed by some shocking journalism from hacks such as David Maddocks in the Daily Mirror applauding the goading of the central defender.

Throughout this, he's still striving to forge an understanding with City's defensive unit which has derailed somewhat in the past few fixtures:

'We have the capacity to score goals from all over the pitch but we must also stop conceding at set plays and we have to address that.'

Yet Lescott remains determined to get The Blue sback on a winning keel:

'The best way to get something like what happened on Sunday out of the system is to get a win under the belt and we have the chance to do just that on Wednesday in the cup against Scunthorpe. After that performance on Sunday we just want to get out there as soon as possible and prove that wasn't the real City. We want to win that one and then go into the Birmingham game next Sunday with confidence.'

All power to the lad and here's to us all getting behind him in the coming fixtures.

JB, how did you get away with writing Scunthorpe in full?
Buzz Lightyear
It was the same against Villa, Thats why it surprised me that we are still vunerable to set pieces as Joleon says, we have to address that and quickly. The attackers are doing their bit by scoring, then the defence should do their bit as well.
Buzz Lightyear
Buzz - Scunthorpe types correctly in these front page articles unlike in the forums.

Glad to see Lescott isnt big headed and can accept he has room for improvement. Scunthorpe lost their last game 3-0 I think...

So long as players learn from the mistakes they make then i can live with it - just don't be coming back at Xmas with the same statements.
