File Under Ridiculous? Rocky International Recall

It's been a long haul back from serious injury for Roque Santa Cruz. He gave it everything against Scunthorpe but was woefully off the pace at Brum. Now he's been recalled by Paraguay.

Paraguay are playing lowered intensity friendlies this month, fair enough, against Qatar and Holland but surely City should step in and block this call up Sir Taggart style in order to ensure his rehabilitation is managed in-house at City?

City have invested heavily in Santa Cruz having signed him after a repeated pursuit following serious knee surgery. The player has been heavily strapped up for both of his appearances this season.

Most of City's striker signings this year have a degree of fragility and injury prone records about them, so it would make sound sense to limit the risk of more international injuries from a City 2009-10 campaign with high aspirations. There is no time for passengers at the level we are aiming for. We need all the options we can get.

What do you think? Should Mark Hughes refuse permission for certain players, especially Rocky to head for international friendlies this month? Give us a shout both here and in the VMC Forums.

He can't refuse them. Even if he says that Santa is injured they could still call him up and have their doctors check him out. At the end of the day anyway he needs games... now Ade is back he'll be getting 15 minutes here and there for us so these internationals should do him and us some good. If he gets injured that's bad luck but he could get injured in training if he doesn't go... you never know.
MCFC_Goatboy
I still reckon City know his limitations, Goat and would be able to manage any recurrences much more swiftly then him being handled by staff he hasn't worked with in a while.
Johnny Baguette
I wouldn't let him go personally but he won't have any of it.
Scragg
Well he certainly needs game time to get match fit which must be a good thing by him getting called up for international duty but then again after we have been so patient with him he might go and get injured again now whilst not playing for us. Its a tough call.
Kevinho
Cheers for the 20 Mill lads! lol....I always rated Roque, but we couldnt afford our star striker not playing, and cashed in....I really do hope he bounces back and scores a few goals for you guys!
sasman
I just hope he doesn't get injured again. We need him.
Sindbad
Hughsey said that RSC was limping after the first half at Birmingham .
Buzz Lightyear
Another factor is the African Nations Cup. We should be sound with Ned coming back to bolster the central defence but we need RSC fit and well. Should we sign another striker?! lol!
Johnny Baguette
he's only ever reall had any consistancy at international level, so let him go...not expecting much from him, his typical pattern is emerging. injury- limited appearance..poor impression.. pretty much sums up his career!
