'If It's Football, It's Vital'

NewsNow Contact Vital Man City

Vital Manchester City received the following article from NewsNow. For those of you who are not aware, several mainstream tabloids are threatening legal action against the said company.

NewsNow is one of the leading websites out there in cyberspace. They offer free links, including the Vital Networks front page articles. For further details and to read what the case against NewsNow entails, click here.

The following was taken from www.techdirt.com

As Rupert Murdoch talks about how he wants to cut off Google, while claiming that aggregator sites are 'parasites' and 'stealing' from him - and that fair use would likely be barred by the courts, it seemed like a good time to examine at least some of the sites that are owned by Rupert Murdoch that appear to aggregate content from other sites and which rely on the very same fair use argument.

I started a thread on this in the forums the other week about this and at the time said that its a pity that newspaper editors don't see the positive side as many people wouldn't bother trawling through website after website for up-to-date stories if NewsNow weren't there to provide excellent links straight to the story. Editors should be grateful for the extra website hits and shouldn't bully organisation who are smaller than them.

On a plus note, if Murdoch starts charging for content and successfully gets Newsnow banned from carrying News International garbage, I mean content, then that can only benefit sites like Vital, which many people will come to rely on once the "proper" sources are denied them. I think it's great that old Rupert is cutting off his nose to spite his face, as taking the action he has proposed will lead to a huge decline in revenue across NI's sites, and most certainly won't boost newspaper sales!

I'm a bit baffled (and slightly worried) the way things are going on the net at the moment. Why the hell would anyone not want their articles linked to ie advertised, for free? We at Vital love it! This is a battle Mudoch will lose ... the thought that he wants to charge users to read sites like the Sun leaves me baffled, the internet cannot now be re-invented!
