Brazilian centre forward, Luis Fabiano has alerted Chelsea and Manchester City after admitting that a move to the Premier League would be very tempting. The 29 year old is rumoured to be open to a move away from Sevilla. He is valued at around £25m and has a £26m release clause on his contract, which expires in 2 years time. He has already admitted this will probably be his last season in Spain as he is ready for a new challenge.
City apparently showed some interest in signing him in the summer but were unable to clinch a deal. He looked set on a move to AC Milan but it fell through as they were not willing to shell out the £25m asking price. Carlo Ancelotti is rumoured to also be in the chase for the striker but the purchase would almost empty his transfer kitty.
Here is what Fabiano said yesterday to www.sport.co.uk:
'I am satisfied with my season at Sevilla but I always want more success. The situation in La Liga and Champions League has been good.'
'That is why I want to concentrate on my work with Sevilla and not think about rumours from other clubs and interest from Italy and England. Maybe that is something for the future, but now I'm focused on Brazil.'
Fabiano is a great player and was a crucial part of Brazil's triumph in the Confederations Cup in the summer. He is powerful, quick, good in the air and has an eye for goal. Just what you want in a striker. I think he is possibly the most under-rated striker in Europe alongside Miroslav Klose. You may argue that City already have an abundance of strikers but the one thing lacking up front is a prolific goalscorer - He has 10 goals this season from 13 appearances and managed to notch up a very impressive 34 goals in 07/08.
The only thing holding me back on the purchase would be that he would have to adapt to the Premier League. As we all know, Hughes is targeting players with Premier League experience so they can immediately fit in. However, I think he could cope and in my opinion, he is well worth the gamble.
