Many a Blue will be in grumpy Christmas form this week and the current wintry unease drifting around SportCity is likely to go up a notch with a Dutch revelation...
Whither now Mark Hughes and his relationship with the Manchester City hierarchy?
Russia coach Guus Hiddink's agent Cees Van Nieuwenhuizen has been on the blower to the Daily Torygraph with a lid lifting exclusive. Garry Cook, City CEO, has been sounding him out over the shrewd Dutchman's future...
'...Cook asked me if it would be worthwhile having a meeting to discuss the future and what might happen next summer. But I told him that Guus was contracted to Russia.'
There's the usual "happy where he is" follow ups in the quotes, but it transpires that Cook and Nieuwenhuizen worked for years together at sports giant Nike.
This has thrown up more questions than answers but in truth, the new era City have gone about their business discreetly outside of the odd faux pas on Cook's part. It could be he didn't know his erstwhile colleague as well as he might on the very subject of discretion.
This is the last thing the City management team need now the hacks have got a proper City defeat to drool over.
But if this story has a base, then it's abundantly clear that Mark Hughes' future as City boss is in serious doubt.
