Dickov not the answer for City

Before Psycho took the knife to the squad today, we asked you whether you'd like to see Paul Dickov back at City next season, something that has been widely speculated about recently.

The answer seems to be a resounding NO, with 70% of you not impressed. The full poll details were:

Should City re-sign Paul Dickov?

No: 70%

Yes: 27%

Don't care: 3%

Personally, I have mixed views. In general, I don't think players returning to former clubs ever seems to work properly, so I'd probably have to agree with the poll results.

However, the picture might change a bit during the summer, if and when more players leave and join the club. If City aren't able to attract some top-name players and need to rely on their young academy stars stepping up to the 1st team (something that's been quite successful in the last couple of years) , then having someone of Dickov's experience might not be such a bad thing, as long as it's not a long contract.

The reality is that although we probably all like to think of City as a top club, we have neither the financial resources or pulling power to attract the really top class players and we need to grow our own and hope they don't all get nicked by Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or even United !

If Andy Cole is back to full fitnes along with Vassell and Samaras there is no need to look for a striker who is past his best, far better to rely on youth with the likes of Miller or BWP to be groomed for the job.
