Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has been linked with a £7m bid for Parma's Kenyan midfielder McDonald Mariga after a move for Real Madrid's Fernando Gago broke down. According to reports, representatives from City and Mariga have had productive talks over the move, which could involve Bulgarian striker Valeri Bojinov heading in the opposite direction on a permanent basis. Bojinov is already on loan at Parma. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/30/manchestercity-premi...

I'll welcome him as a new addition to the squad, from what I've heard of him he is a talented player and worth a punt, I've also heard everything is complete, all that we're waiting for is FA approval so i assume he has been passed by the Home Office for a work permit, so lets hope he is the first of a potential three signings today

12:41 hrs - SSN confirm City cannot get a work permit for Mariga - the deal has collapsed.

This window was hyped up soooo much, and delivered NOTHING! (unless viera and sol managed to excite anyone...) Same for most teams really. At least the players will soon be able to concentrate on playing rather than if they will lose thei place or not.

the bbc reports we are close to signing this fella,,, The 22-year-old is still in Italy but is set to fly into the UK to sign for City for fee of around £7m. Complications over Mariga's work permit have held up his switch. But BBC Sport understands that issue is close to being resolved,

Apparently he has played enough games for Kenya but thry are too far the world rankings at 98 - need to be above 70th so the deal is off for this window. This was on bbc live transfer deadline day.

It's fell through, we couldn't get his work-permit

See he's signed for Inter on a 4 year deal so we can forget a summer deal.
