Bayern Munich Fans Flood Manchester

Wednesday 7th April 2010 (afternoon): We have the very latest update from Manchester City based roving reporter 'Pedmachine'.

I've just returned from the City of Manchester Stadium. The Stadium forecourts around the 'City Centre' which is the main Superstore was awash with red and white. I discovered that it was Bayern Munich supporters in town for tonight's match at a stadium just outside the city. They were really nice folks and are absolutely convinced that they will progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League later.

Some of them said that had heard of the investment going into our Club and the plans that are afoot and thought it would be good idea whilst they were here to go and see what it is all about. Clearly they were impressed with our superb Stadium plus all the facilities and space that there is around Sportcity. Some even suggested it would be a good location to build a super-stadium like their own to house City and dare I say another local Club that names itself Manchester!

Before heading for the valium I told them that last July I went to a place called Rottach Egern to watch a youthful City side play 1860 Munich in a 1-1 pre-season friendly.(a bit like going to Drumnadrochit overlooking Loch Ness). Whilst there a great friendship was established amongst the fans on the back of the fact that both team traditionally play in blue and white and are not keen on things red and white. The 1860 Munich fans told me that the only good thing that is red is red wine! I know some City fans who will only drink white wine!

Although the Allianz Arena is a bit spectacular They told me that it makes them feel ill when Bayern play at home and the stadium takes on a red glow as opposed to the Blue Glow when 1860 play at home. The Bayern fans told me that it is the same in reverse for them! Long live Blue & White/Red & White rivalry!

Who do we want to win tonight? Bayern because we don't like United? Or would it be best for United to stay in the Champions League because it would create team selection concerns for Mr Ferguson next weekend? If City can truly concentrate on one game at a time then I think we will draw strength from that and finish in fourth position!

Looks as though the manure fans are flooding into Manchester for tonight's game too - drove back to Manc on the M6 today and the service stations were absolutely overrun with rags (36 red shirts in Corley services). Presumably they were all rushing back to Manchester from their holidays down south? One thing that has me bemused though - why were there so many Norwich fans heading north?

Rags 1-2 Bayern or Rags 1-1 Bayern

As General Dread once said: "My favourite goal is scored by anyone, at any time, anywhere against Manchester united." - Spot on.

That'll be the rags out of Europe then!
