Nedum In The Mix For The Super Eagles?

MCFC Academy 'veteran,' 23 year old Nedum Onuoha is in Nigeria's thoughts again ahead of the 2010 World Cup. A City fans favourite, the astute Ned may well call time on England...

The Warri born and Hulme Grammar educated Onuoha, known as 'The Chief' to his team- mates spoke to the MUEN earlier in the week of his City frustrations and international thoughts:

'It's been disappointing, because I have been available ever since the new manager came in, but I have not played any games due to other people being ahead of me. There is nothing you can do about that other than keep your head down and keep working, and the opportunity finally came, against Burnley. It wasn't one I was expecting, but I was ready when it did come. I'd love to play in the remaining six games, but it's out of my hands.

'If I did that maybe the chance would be there to play for Nigeria. But if I am not playing week in, week out, I wouldn't expect to receive a call from anyone because that wouldn't be right. Everyone wants to play in the World Cup, but things have to be right and you have to be selected. A lot of people are talking about it as though it is an option but I have never been called up.'

Nigeria Head Coach Lars Lagerback is coming to England next week to meet with English based Super Eagles and it is understood that he will meet the former England Under 21 verstaile defender, but there will be no guarantee of a World Cup place.

Nigeria's Media Officer Idah Peterside said:

'We had reached out to him some time ago, but what he said at that time was that he needed to clear some things up with his family. It is good news for us that he has made the consultations and is now ready to play for Nigeria.

'But saying he wants to represent Nigeria does not automatically guarantee him a place in the team. The coach has made that clear to everyone that they have to show that they are committed and ready to give everything for their country.'

Above all else, something that will unsettle Planet Blue this week is the fact that a player of Nedum's undoubted ability appears to be at something of a career crossroads following a series of injuries that have blighted his senior career to date.

Ned has never let City down when called upon, sometimes out of nowhere and Blues worldwide will be anxious to see the powerful City through and through defender see out the remaining fixtures of this season in style.

For any Blue in doubt of Ned's depth of feeling for our club, take five and check out the following video link: VMC City Video Link: Nedum's Maine Road Memories Revived In Lowry Play

Understanable really, he would need to be in Robertos starting 11 regular to catch the eye of Capello, but sadly that is not the case.
