The PFA Player Of The Year title has been passed around for years to wonderful players and the prestigious award has been held in high regard.
The players who win the award are the ones that are remembered for years to come; Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Peter Shilton, Kevin Keegan, Mark Hughes, Ian Rush...the list goes on and we remember them all. So to be even nominated for this award, you know you have made it and you have had an exceptional season!
The days have changed for Manchester City from the likes of Antoine Sibierski, Danny Mills, and Sun Jihai leading us 'forward' whereas now, in the year of 2010, Manchester City Football Club have a player nominated for the PFA Player Of The Year award. City have never had a player win this award before, however if ever there has been a player that has deserved it - Carlos Tevez certainly is certainly that man.
He will be up against the likes of Wayne Rooney (who will be trying to give the award to another United player for four years on the trot), Didier Drogba, and Cesc Fabregas, who will give him stiff opposition for the prize. Carlos had a slow start to the season; however with 20 goals in his last 18 games I see no reason why he couldn't win.
If you ask me he has beaten Cesc hands down. There is no doubt that Fabregas has had a wonderful season and being the captain of a possible title winning team at such a young age too in itself shows that he is a fantastic footballer. He has a wonderful strike on him. He's noted for his excellence as he gives a master class performance every game in midfield with his excellent awareness and passing to perfection. However, I just think that Tevez is better - simples!
If you ask me he has also beaten Didier hands down. Drogba may be beating him on the top goal scorer table but I think that he hasn't been as influential as Tevez has to City. Drogba has a great shot and scores a hell of a lot of goals - and they are all pretty much great goals - however, that's all. Although he will run after a ball and come into the midfield to win it back occasionally...he has nothing on our Tevez.
Tevez - if he loses the ball he would run the length of the pitch to get it back - he is so determined and when he gets that ball back he doesn't lose it either. He will always get something going again.
The Argentinean's goal tally tells the story itself of how this works for him.
So, for me it's going down to the wire between the both Manchester sides and their strikers; Rooney vs. Tevez! Second place isn't too bad, but what's to say that Tev couldn't go all the way? He's obviously not the favourite as Rooney has had an exceptional season, but with a stat like 20 in 18 he could certainly get that top spot ans he's certainly my 'Player Of The year'!
