Gunnar Nielsen: From Obscurity To Instant Fame

Manchester City's third choice goalkeeper, Gunnar Nielsen has been promoted to number one shot-stopper following Shey Given's unfortunate injury against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Blues and Republic of Ireland number one dislocated his left shoulder after diving at full stretch at the Emirates Stadium, and now the 34-year-old is expected to be sidelined until the beginning of season 2010/11, at least.

Second choice keeper Stuart Taylor is on the treatment table and with Joe Hart on loan at Birmingham City MCFC boss Roberto Mancini has no option but to instantly promote Nielsen from obscurity to instant fame.

Fourth choice shot-stopper, David González Giraldo is expected to follow in Gunnar Nielsen's footsteps and sit on the bench against Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham.

I instantly knew that he had dislocated his shoulder- My father dislocated his and boy, it's definitely not a simple injury.

There can be litttle doubt now that Joe Hart will be back at City in a fortnight. I'm hearing off mates in Dublin that Shay is likely to miss Ireland's games in September.
Johnny Baguette
Like you say Jb, Mancini will have to recall Joe Hart but I can't see it being for the final three games of the season. It will more than likely be when his season loan deal expires in May.
Tudor
Absolutely T. Nielsen showed a calm touch and excellent reach yesterday.

Cometh the hour - cometh the boy - we hope.

Pretty sure that Hart will not be allowed to play for us this season, so Nielsen it is for the remaining 3 games. Looked OK yesterday, let's just hope he can handle the pressure of the Spurs match. Joe Hart must be recalled when his loan deal expires though, and IF Given is out until October he should have 5-7 games in which to impress and make the No1 spot his own. Bit unfair on Shay, but that's the way it goes I guess, as I don't see Hart losing the spot once he's ggot it.
