Boateng Close To City Switch

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed that German international Jerome Boateng is close to agreeing an £11m switch to Manchester City.

The club has been heavily linked with the versatile 21-year-old and it is now thought that City are ready to activate his release clause.

Mancini stated of the Hamburg defender: 'We are quite close to signing him. Boateng is a good player, a young player and strong.

'He plays for the national team and there is a good chance to get him. He can play three different positions; central defence, right full-back or in midfield. If we find a player like that it is better for us.'

Boateng, brother of Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, could be arriving at Eastlands as soon as by the end of the week, with the club determined to push through deals before this summers World Cup.

It was obvious when Kompany slotted into the the defence how badly we needed a tall powerful defender. Adding another quality youngster like Boateng to the ranks will surely put us on a good footing for next season.

another promising young german player coming to the epl. hope he does not end up like his brother. but jerome plays for the german national team whereas kevin plays for ghana. no disrespect to the ghanian national team, but this itself speaks volume regarding the different class between the two brothers. hope he does well for you (except that when he plays against us, of course :)

German TV is reporting...Bereits am 25.

So who will be Citys defence next season? Richards, Toure, Boateng, Bridge, Zabaletta, Kompany, Lescott? Or will some of those be leaving? If you guys bring in at least one top full back like Maicon or Abidal, you'll have a REALLY strong defensive base.

I think a top class left-back is on the cards. Bridge has been inconsistent and injury prone. Dont see anyone leaving but you never know. We dont need to sell to raise money anymore at least.

I think that was Mancini's intention trying to sign Mariga in January. He obviously recognises the lack of height in our team and its a top priority to get some big physical players at the club. That sort of thinking is why I have every faith in Mancini.

In essence Cityman51 what the broadcaster is saying is that MCFC is the biggest club in England and within a couple of years time City will conquor the world!! The German international is in awe and can't wait to play in the Premier League and for City. (lol)

Boateng should slot in easily at city with kompany and de jong being there. Hes actually taller than kompany! Id still like to see city sign a experienced centre half like walter samuel or alessandro nesta. I wouldnt shed tears if toure or richards were sold to make way. A left back and right back are needed now.

Vey Very good player. Happy with this signing. Have Hamburg let us down in the past? Exactly.
