Man City 2009/10 - The Best Yet?

Well it's been a funny old season hasn't it? Some would call it indescribable, unbelievable and unimaginable; from balloons on the pitch, to phantom goals. From injury time, to managerial sackings. From cup upsets, to league shocks. The season has had it all, and from all the teams in the Barclays Premier League, Manchester City has had one of the bumpiest rides going.

It's all over now I'm afraid though. No more De Jong tackles, no more Adebayor celebrations, no more Tevez hat tricks, no more Kompany headers, no more emergency loaning of keepers - nothing! City is finished for a while now (though you have the World Cup to keep you entertained) so why not have a little look at what's just passed you by? It's happened so fast you may have forgotten some of it! Manchester City 2009/10:

The summer was a funny old one with the transfer speculation of course dominating the back pages as City seemed to be after everybody and their mothers! After capturing Lescott from the claws of the relentless Moyes, and of course prizing away our very own Carlitos Tevez from the 'neighbours' it was off! The season that we all wanted so much from, had kicked off.

Adebayor instantly put himself on the map within three minutes of his debut with an opening day win against Blackburn. This was followed by a trophy - The Juan Gamper Trophy - after a 1-0 win over Barcelona with a Martin Petrov goal - the team themselves had won the Champions League not too long before against Manchester united! So Richard Dunne lifted the trophy, however this wouldn't happen again, as the legend left the club for Aston Villa.

1-0 wins over Wolves and Pompey (both by the on fire Manu Adebayor) were interrupted by a 2-0 win against Palace in the Carling Cup, with Tevez scoring his first of many for City. And then came two of the biggest and best games of the season: Arsenal and United!

A 4-2 win against Arsenal with Richards, Bellamy, Adebayor and SWP all scoring gave us a wonderful result, and of course our very own Manu Adebayor had a lovely celebration and managed to kick Robin Van Persie's 'head in' and stay on the pitch - we had the back pages tied up there! Of course, this was followed by the most prestigious of all games in a season - the derby! A narrow loss to United with the old 'Fergie Time' making an appearance and Bellamy picking up 'performance of the season' as 4-3 was how it ended - so close though!

Not a bad start at all and it continued... with a win over Fulham in the Carling Cup, a 3-1 win against the Hammers with Tevez getting two (and being gracious in his celebration) and then off down to Birmingham we went for an Aston Villa side with Richard Dunne to face.

1-1 it finished and Barry and Dunne both got 'different' reactions from both fans, oh and I forgot to mention that the own-goal specialist managed to pop one in the right net.

Then it came - the wonderful run of draws: Wigan got a 1-1, Fulham got a 2-2, Birmingham ended goalless, Burnley shocked us for a point, Liverpool came back for a point, Hull then popped up for a 1-1 draw (and a lovely celebration) as it seemed to be turning a bit sour.

However, the 5-1 hammering against Scunthorpe with Ireland, RSC, Lescott, Tevez and Michael Johnson popping up to score added a bit of excitement in the Carling Cup in the midst of those draws as we progressed in the cup!

We needed to put an end to those draws and boy did we! 3-0 win against Arsenal in the cup with Weiss scoring his first for us and a 2-1 historic win against Chelsea with a Tevez and De Jong inspired evening.

A glimpse of the draws popped up again with a 3-3 against Bolton (Bellamy being sent off also?) however we didn't let the draws continue as we lost 3-0 to spurs! This is when the press believed we began to look for a manager.

After a 4-3 win to Sunderland, Goodbye Hughes, hello Bobby Manc! He got City a 2-0 win against Stoke with Petrov and Tev scoring, then a 3-0 win against Wolves away from home - just pure class, followed by a 1-0 win in the FA Cup against 'Boro (Benjani scoring) - it was looking dandy. Blackburn came then to be devastated by a Tevez hat trick and a wonderful Richards's goal.

Then came Everton - 2-0 loss - 'nuff said. And of course came that special two weeks: those derby's; Tevez and Neville, The blue moon and the flairs, the coin throwers, the celebrations...the disappointment.

The two legs were separated by a trip to Scunthorpe - 4-2 win for us with Sylvinho getting his first for city with a wonder strike and Robinho got his last. We picked ourselves back up though from the derby defeat with a 2-0 win at home vs Pompey. But lost 2-1 to Hull (Adam Johnson debut - wonderful).

Bolton came to Eastlands to lose 2-0 in a less than exciting game and was followed by the Stoke City mini season where we didn`t get a win (1-1, 1-1, 3-1)...and we were dumped out of the FA cup.

0-0 against Liverpool - we needed a win badly - Chelsea was our victims: 4-2 win. Bridge showed Terry whose boss as the doubles were in action Lampard got a double, as did Tevez and Bellamy, and a double sending off - Belleti and Ballack!

This was followed by a 1-1 against Sunderland with that belter from Johnson, a 2-1 win over Fulham (great win, especially after Fulham made history in mid-week against Juve).

The topsy turvy momentum following us at the moment continued as Everton completed the double over us - 2-0. And, Mancini and Moyes had a scuffle, but back we came and had a wonderful three games! Wigan, 3-0 Tevez hat trick - 'fandabbydozie!'

Burnley, 6-1 with a wonderful game - Bellamy, Tevez, Adebayor X2, Vieira, Kompany; a dodgy pitch and a wonderful 6 minutes made it a very good weekend indeed. Birmingham, 5-1 hammering- Tevez X2, Ade X2 and Nedum scoring.

We were now on a bit of a roll - hitting form at the right time and linking well, scoring in droves. So, bring on the United? Unluckily lost 1-0. Oh fiddlesticks! We had bigger fish to fry though as we had a mini season to play: Arsenal, Villa, Tottenham and depending on the results, West Ham.

First up is Arsenal - 0-0, well defended but should have gone for it really. Then it was Villa, great game and a 3-1 win; Tevez, Adebayor and Bellamy! Bring on Spurs - the game that will make or break our season.

Well, along with my heart...our season was broken - 1-0 loss to Peter Crouch's tall physique. So, West Ham was just to secure 5th place or 6th place.

Europa league was secure and it was just for pride. A 1-1 draw was how the season ended - SWP getting the goal. And now - it's over and I'm sure you'll agree this has been a wonderfully exciting season! 5th place and Europa League.

Bring on the Carling Cup.
Bring on the FA Cup.
Bring on the Europa League.
Bring on the Reds.
Bring on the league.
Bring on season 2010/11.
