'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Given The Boot

Those of you old enough will remember the limit choice of football boot available to us some years ago. Things have changed but are they for the better?

The sturdy leather boot supported toes, ankles and ligaments but now the latest technology comes at a price. I think it was David Beckham's metatarsal injury some four years ago which highlighted the now familiar problem.

The current crop of players now suffer from excessive foot bruising and damaged toe nails but why, especially when an average pair costs in the region of £180.

CNN takes a look at the football boot and its latest cutting edge designs.

I bet they don't pay for their own boots, they are usually free from their sponsors, lucky guys even though they are on mega books a week.

Les Chapman, City's kit guru was on official video recently doing a boot conversion for Paddy Vieira. Many of the players like to take moulded soles to him to have studs added!

I think some of todays players would struggle with the 'old boot'
