We Are Weak Says Kolo Toure

Manchester City and Ivory Coast defender, Kolo Toure has called on his international team-mates to gel if they are to fulfil their World Cup ambitions.

Former Blues boss Sven Goran Eriksson is in charge of the Côte d'Ivoire team but by all accounts all is not happy within the African camp.

The Elephants have a number of world-class players to call on including Didier Drogba, Kolo's brother Yaya (expected to sign for Manchester City following the conclusion of the World Cup), while Salomon Kalou, Emmanuel Eboue and Aruna Dindane are also Premier League superstars, however Kolo (29) thinks the side are a team of individuals which might not be enough to see them progress out of the group stages.

Toure said...

"We have failed as a team and we keep failing. I have failed, we have all failed. It is not important to have great players but it is important to have a great team and at the moment we don't have that."

"We are still searching for that. We have individuals but as a team we are very weak at the moment."

In defence of the national squad Eriksson added...

"I know the weaknesses of the team and I am working on these. What we have learned is that the remainder of the work surrounds things like field positioning during attack and defence."

"I've a clear idea of what remains to be done before we start against Portugal."

Group G consist of Ivory Coast, Brazil, South Korea and Portugal. Group G fixtures can be found here.
