James Milner's Name Resurfaces On City Radar

Following an impressive final World Cup group match game for England against Slovenia yesterday (23/06/10) James Milner's name has resurfaced on Manchester City's radar.

Reports suggest City boss Roberto Mancini has already seen a £20m offer rejected by Aston Villa but a further £30m offer might be enough to tempt the Birmingham based club into submission.

With Milner concentrating on Sunday's must win game against Germany no direct approach with the player is expected for the time being. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old's agent is reportedly keeping in touch with City's negotiating team.

Is Milner worth £30m? Tell us what you think by adding your thoughts in the comments section directly below this article.

He is worth a lot to Villa, so looks like "oilwell' price if we want him. Played well last night and crossed the ball well.

30mil for Milner is ridiculous. He's worth about half that, if even.
Bluedub
Bluedub you obviously haven't seen him play on a regular basis or in his correct position, his work rate and Control, skill and crossing ability and passing ability make him worth that much, he gets the team playing and can come up with that peace of magic that wins the game he is also gr8 at holding up the ball and defending, he is a whole hearted player in whatever he does and will go into every challenge and also will play in any position to the best of his ability without complaining. he is the all round player and thats why he got pfa young player of the year and the fact that hes consistant and can play in almost every position makes him a huge asset and some1 who is highly regarded in the england team by fabio capello (who said that james milner is the future of england) much more so than shaun wright philips and adam johnson, u would be lucky to get half the player milner is and he is well worth 30 million because of all these reasons. if james milner isnt worth 15 milllion how much is adam johnson or shaun wright philips worth?? 6million, id have said about 12 million but if james milner is worth half of 30 thats how much adam must cost
Avillian136
*if james milner isnt even worth 15 million
Avillian136
I have seen him mate and I am an admirer, but still don't get the valuation. Ashley Young won the PFA young player season before last, enough said. Johnson cost City somewhere in the region of 7 mil, reasonable price. SWP, academy produced, sold for 21 mil, bought back 3 years later for 12, so effectively City made 9 mil for a three year loan( thanks Chelsea ), another bit of good business. But Milner for 30 mil is not good business IMO, it's madness.
Bluedub
Bluedub couldnt have put it better. Hes simply not worth 30million. Hes only had one good season. If hes worth that much to villa, then i hope they keep him and we dont sign him.
Super City Slicker
Avillian, you sound like you're looking forward to selling him to us. I would've thought you'd come out and state how you dont want him leaving villa for any amount. Anyway £30 million is ridiculous.
me_innit
Would take a 'ridiculous' amount to force Villa to sell him though me_innit, not sure any player is worth anywhere near £30m but if you want him you will be paying through your noses for him, your prices will also - obviously - be inflated due to your owners, just the same as they were for Chelsea when Roman first appeared.
The Fear
If Villa have turned down £20m then we should look elsewhere.
tudor
Agreed Tudor, the cheek of Villa trying to inflate the market.;-)
Bluedub
Just depends how you value a player .... on his own merit .... or what he might bring to the team in terms of a particular formation that the manager is trying to achieve. He clearly is not wotyh £30million on the first count but is Mancini wanting a box to box midfielder used to the rigours of the premiership and is prepared to pay over the odds for this?
Wswilly3
I don't think that Milner has ever gone off our radar, but that Villa have delayed negotiations in the hope Milner has a good world cup and his value increases. Ultimately, the sale of Milner will be sanctioned by Randy Lerner, and he didn't get to be a Billionaire by being a bit of a softy!
fifthcolumnblue
He's as cuddly as my parrot is our Randy.
Wswilly3
'mancini wanting a box to box midfielder' more like trying to sign teams around his, best players just like he did in italy ;)
AvdomFc
Avdom - that must be why he signed Vieira, Johnson and Boateng, eh? And why he's targeting Yaya and Silva.
Bluedub
You robbed us of our captain Richard Dunne - disgraceful!!
