Nedum Onuoha: I Don't Think Mancini Likes Me

Aston Villa and Sunderland lead the chase for Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha, according to skysports.com.

The 23-year old is understood to be surplus to requirements at Eastlands after Roberto Mancini signed Hamburg's German defender Jerome Boateng.

Current list of City defenders

Dedryck Boyata
Greg Cunningham
Javan Vidal
Jerome Boateng
Joleon Lescott
Wayne Bridge
Javier Garrido
Shaleum Logan
Micha Richards
Kolo Toure
Pablo Zabaleta

It appears Manchester City are prepared to sell Ned for a mere £5m just to get the England U21 international off their books.

I don't think Mancini likes me

Sky Sports showed the following clip at the end of last season and it is were Helen and Max talk about City's season, Ned's forthcoming holidays and Stephen Ireland's small head!

Within the clip the Youth Academy graduate says tongue-in-cheek...

'I don't think Mancini likes me.'

The clip can be found here.

No son, like me, he just doesn't rate you. Half decent defender at best and not terribly good vision.

Nedum is a class act who we must keep as a squad player.

Mancini is on a mission to make us the best in Europe and keep his job. Ned has always done his best when picked, but maybe this is not the standard the coach is looking for.

That list must extend to Hughes, Sven and Pearce as well, as they never particularly gave Ned a chance either. I really like Ned, and it really helps that he's a local lad and City fan. Unfortunately, he has a knack for picking up niggly injuries and spending time out of the team. In my eyes he has never let us down when called upon, but for a succession of managers to ignore his claims to a first team place, there must be something they see that we as fans don't. Ned is a class act who will probably go on tto big things, but it would seem that sadly, it won't be with us.

I have to agree with you. I've watched Nedum come through the system at City and am certain that if he had not been injured at the time then he would have got into the forst team ahead of Richards. He is a better footballer than Richards, he does learn, he does want to play for City and genuinely loves our Club. Indeed in the second half of the 2008/09 Season I would have said he was our best defender and in reality last season would have been our best right back given more outings. He has lightning pace, reads the game well and will mark up. He also has the capacity to learn. If City offloads him for a mere £5m then he is a steal for any Premier League Club that comes calling. If I was manager of a newly promoted club or one that stayed in the League by the skin of its teeth last season, I would hand deliver the cheque to Eastlands. Indeed if I were 'arry I would take Nedum instead of Richards.
