Hart Will Remain Number Two Warns Given

Manchester City's number one shot-stopper, Shey Given has fired a shot across Joe Hart's bow - "My aim to be fit and playing at the beginning of the Premier League season."

Manchester City players return to Carrington tomorrow (Monday 5 July) for pre-season training, and that includes Shey Given, who has recovered ahead of schedule following a shoulder injury which occurred towards the latter part of last season.

The 34-year-old Republic of Ireland international told the Daily Star...

"My aim is to be back fit and playing by the start of the season. Things are progressing well. I may have to miss one or two pre-season friendlies but I am not far away at all."

The former Newcastle United stalwart continued...

"Joe is a top young goalkeeper, a real talent and I saw what he could do before he left for Birmingham. But he's back now and it will be good to work with him again."

"He is one for the future and no doubt now that he is back at Manchester City he has big ambitions."

Response

In response to Shey's comments the 23-year-old England international added...

"City are a club I have been at for a long time now and a club I think a lot of. I still have to wait and see how it works out there. But the decision on my future is not up to me. I'm just a player. It's not down to me at the end of the day. I'm contracted to City and that's where I'm going back to. That's the team I'm part of. It's as simple as that."

Given is the past. Joe is the future. We would sending out a bad message by bringing him back from a very successful loan spell only to plonk him on the bench. Cassillas and Valdes got their chance with top teams as young men and so now should Joe.

I Joe Hart has any tesicles he will come back and make Given eat his words. With All the games we will (hoepfully) play next season, I'm sure they can both get a few games. But if it comes down to a straight fight for the No. 1 spot my money is on Joe Hart

Where in them quotes does Shay "warn" anyone? He says he's aiming to be ready for new season and looking foward to working with Hart again, i don't see any waning. Tough choice for Mancini, but that's what he's getting paid for.

Good healthy competition and no moaning - remember also we have the Europa League and can interchange for this if necessary.
