'If It's Football, It's Vital'

More rumours about Distin

Two worrying snippets of news I've just heard:

1 - Sylvain Distin has reportedly refused to put pen to paper on a new three year deal, which will no doubt alert a number of English and European clubs.

There's always been the feeling that the skipper wouldn't rush to sign a new deal and will wait for as long as possible before committing himself, hoping that another club can offer him European football next season. Hopefully he'll sign, but if he doesn't we have Richards and Onouha who could cover his departure and Dunnie has already signed a new deal.

2. Stuart Pearce is reported to have offered a staggering £2m for aging Dutch defender Mario Melchiot.

Now he was a half decent player in his prime at Chelsea, but has been distinctly average at Birmingham City - weren't they just relegated ??

Now we do need to strengthen our defence, irrespective of whether Mills stays or goes, but with respect, Melchiot is not the sort of profile of player that we need and certainly not for £2m and big wages; his best days are behind him .... don't do it Stuart !

We may as well stick with Mills at least he is prepared to fight for his place.

Maybe pshcho wants him to teach your young defenders a thing or two. He is known as one of the most skilfull defenders in the premiership.
