De Jong: This Is A New Generation

Manchester City and Holland midfielder, Nigel de Jong believes the time is right for the current crop of Dutch players to claim World Cup glory.

The Netherlands made the World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978 but as you would expect, the 25-year-old believes his country can go one better in tomorrow's final and win the tournament for the first time in their history.

'That is right (having never won), but it is not a problem,' he said. 'The energy we get from it is positive, not negative.'

'Those teams in the past put Holland on the map. But that was 32 years ago. This is a new generation.'

'We cannot go into the game with any memories of the past. This is our squad and our time. With all due respect, they had theirs.'

Johan Cruyff and Ruud Krol are living legends but can you name other Dutch players from the 70's era?

Spain are definitely the purists favourite, but if Holland can turn it into a scrap Mourinho style they have every chance. Either way, with the signing of Silva, City will have a WC winner in their ranks.

Head says Spain, Heart says , erm Spain!. But I predicted the Dutch to win before the tournament kicked off so will be wearing oranje tomorrow. Wish I'd stuck more than a fiver on it though!
