'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Anti - City Venom Antidote

I'm a little upset at all these hack writers claiming that Manchester City players are ruining the English team simply because of the influx of foreign talent.

Vital Manchester City member, StuMCFC began the debate via our Man City forum with the headline, 'The anti-City venom gets worse - we're 'whores' now'. As expected this got one or two of our members hot under the collar.

Stu wrote...

'Can you believe a paid journalist wrote this? A Liverpool fan too- I have emailed my thoughts on it to City and also asked why they continue to sit on their backsides and not take action against such blatant slander.'

His rant began when he read a story published in the Daily Mirror by columnist Brian Reade. The article focused on how he thought Yaya Toure was 'seduced by the whore of world football.'

The thread attracted several replies, many of which were not exactly complimentary to the tabloid or its author. However, PhillyBlueMoon came up with the 'Anti-City Venom Antidote.'

'So, I'm a little upset at all these hack writers claiming that City players are ruining the English team and it's because of foreign talent taking over. I did a little research myself and found the following facts and figures on who has the most foreign players in their first teams. We'll go through all the teams to qualify for Europe last season in England: (all information was obtained through wikipedia).'

Chelsea
28 first team players
22 foreign players - 79%

The Rags
42 first team players
28 foreign players - 67%

Arsenal
28 first team players
24 foreign players - 86%

Spurs
31 first team players
16 foreign players - 52%

City
36 first team players
23 foreign players - 64%

Villa
33 first team players
14 foreign players - 42%

Liverpool
39 first team players
28 foreign players - 72%

PhillyBlueMoon continues...

'So, as can plainly be seen, we are not the root cause of England's demise. Why isn't the writer of this article criticizing his own club for being almost 3/4ths foreign born players? It's unbelievable the s*** that some of these people get paid for.'

Does PhillyBlueMoon make his point crystal clear?

The actual thread and its subsequent links to the Mirror story can be found here.

I think its more the fact that your paying Yaya £220,000 a week thats ruining football, that kind of pay is ridiculus even for the super players like Messi, Ronaldo, and .... well thats about it. When you start paing your holding midfielders that kind of money where does it stop? Youve got bench players on 100k its madness. Although these arabs are said to have unlimited funds, Id lke to see if they are still happy to throw away £300m a year for the next 2-3 years if it doesnt bring any success?
liamyid
Liamyid - the "fact" according to who? the tabloids? They told us Yaya cost at least £24 million, when in fact he cost just over £18 million. I don't know what his wages are, but can you find a reputable link that can confirm that he's on this wage?
Bluedub
wow liamyid. You have really good contacts within our club to have been shown the details of yayas' contract.... oh no, wait a minute, you're probably just regurgitating the cr4p you read in the muppet tabloids aren't you. did you also know that arry dodges the taxman and pav is on 150,000 a week to warm the bench.
tublu
Great stats that are a massive slap in the face for those City bashers who wanted to use us as a scapegoat. Sorry Liamyid, I can't fathom how people like you can BELIEVE tabloid journalism. It is all speculation and opinion from talentless hacks. As Bluedub rightly suggests, find a reputable link which confirms the rumour. There is none.
eighthsin
Seems like everyone at "rival" clubs actually believe the crap that's being witten in the tabloids...
Blue ponderer
Now don't be harsh on the poor boy. He is not the only person who believes everything he reads in the press. Only trouble is that most of the hot info the press relate has come direct from the real intheknowers. Us posters on fan sites. Because if that isn't the case it must simply be pure lies. And we all know the press won't do that don't we.
SFC Forever
Just stop reading them Fleet 'the street of shame' street will soon be demolished anyway and all those hacks will be out of work bloggers.
jackblue
Didnt know liverpool had 39 players on the books.
Chelsea24/7
Oh aye Chelsea 24/7, Benitez has amassed a huge squad of dross at Liverpool, and I think their squad was at one point around 50 strong. Yet he's still revered by the Scouse fans! Go figure
fifthcolumnblue
where has the figure of £220k come from?
Buzz Lightyear
Plucked out of a hat Buzz - just like the reports that we'd spent £28m for him, only for Sandro Rosell to confirm that Barca had received 21.5m Euros (about £18m pounds) for the player. So as far as his wages are concerned, nobody in the press has the slightest clue - don't expect them to stop making it up though!
fifthcolumnblue
Trouble is that "rival" fans want to believe the nonsense and the anti City crap so they have another stick to beat the club with.
Bluedub
all the ya ya stuff is guesswork. what isn't are the 'facts' from shreks court case. All the muppet posts we read about City players being mercenaries and only here for the money. It seems that Shrek receives £760,000 / month in image-rights payments. imagine how much he would get if he wasn't a fekkin gargoyle
