'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Forget Sitting On The Bench Warns Hart

Joe Hart is unwilling to sit on the substitutes' bench this season and would prefer to go out on loan again. Apparently!

Shay Given has recovered from his shoulder injury and if the truth be known the Republic of Ireland keeper is thought to be Mancini's first choice shot-stopper.

Nevertheless, Hart (23) who spent the whole of last season on loan at Birmingham made his feelings clear...

"Sitting on the bench doesn't really interest me if I'm honest. I've played a lot of first-team football now and that's all I want to do."

Asked whether he would consider another loan move, Hart said...

"It wouldn't be up to me, Manchester City are in charge of me at the moment but if I wasn't playing I suppose I would have to reconsider."

In response to Harts comments City boss Mancini said...

"Joe Hart will be the first-choice goalkeeper for England for the next 10 years but I do not know which goalkeeper will be my first choice next season."

Dilemma

If you were the City boss what would you do?

Rotate keepers?
Allow Hart to go out on-loan?
Keep Hart happy and make Given sit on the bench?
Run to the hills and bury your head in sand?
Something else

Too good to warm your bench along with many other players who are. He needs to get out asap unless he doesnt get the number 1 shirt but i doubt it because given is quality aswell.
P.Avfc
Have to agree P.Avfc. I would hate to see him leave City but if that is what he has to do then so-be-it.
Tudor
i'd have shay playing the league games and joe playing in all the cup games! Easy! Keep them both happy? Unless we get to all 3 finals then maybe shay wouldn't be too happy.
given_is_ironman
I doubt he would wanna play a few cup games there and then though, He should be sent out on loan to someone like fulham, sunderland etc so he can improve, stay happy and be a city player still for the future.
P.Avfc
Mancini will not have any choice but to play his best keeper at all times. At the moment that's Given. With the type of investment that has been made, the owners will expect trophies, and I don't think Mancini will stick his head out just to please Hart. I don't think Hart would be satisfied with playing just cup matches either as suggested by G-I-I. Unfortunately I can only see this going two ways: 1) either he goes out on loan now. 2) or he stays until January and goes out on loan then unless Given gets injured in the meantime. I don't think that we will sell him this season - for that he is too big a prospect. The question is how long will he be happy being loaned out for, there's no telling how long Given will remain at his best.
Blue ponderer
Well, as long as he's playing on a regular basis and is happy with that, why don't we keep loaning him out until Shay retires or dips in form? I don't see any problem with sending Joe out on loan to help his development, especially since he's only 22 years old. His best years are still ahead of him, and it's not like he's sitting on a bench somewhere if he gets loaned out, he's getting first team action.
PhillyBlueMoon
Please don't go all Kasper Schmeichel, Joe. The sheer audacity he had in declaring himself The Man at City after a series of jammy clean sheets beggared belief. Today he's come out and talked of his "horrible" time at City. City gave you your start Kasper.
Johnny Baguette
To sell his not an option - keep him and review a loan at Christmas but play him in the Europa League.
Wswilly3
I like your thinking, Willy. Play him in the League Cup and Europa League and that's a good 14 games before Christmas. Compared to the league, it's about 50/50 with Given in net.
PhillyBlueMoon
he is way better than shay given hope he moves for his sake gud luck for new season
jokabus
Make him no.1 take that risk,he's the future of england let him earn his stripes.
Chelsea24/7
This is gonna be a big problem for Mancini. Goalkeeper is the one position that it's difficult to rotate.
Thaibluefan
You cannot rotate your goalkeeper. Didn't Chelsea try this at one time with Bonnetti & Stepney? Didn't Stepney end up in Stretford and end up winning the European Cup? I have said before on here that Given is a bit over-rated. If he is workd class in any shape or form he would dominate his 6 yard box better and not cost us free-headed goals because he is stuck on his line. The key to your goalkeepers form is to have a settled back four or at least 2 settled centre backs. The combination Dunne, Distin and James was pretty miserly and after the disasters caused by Seaman earlier one season, the triangle mentioned above kept us in the Premier League that season (or was it the day that Walker threw out the ball, it hit Goater on the back of the head and went in?). I would go with Joe. I think Given got too lacklustre last season because he was unchallenged.
pedmachine
Much as I have great respect for Seamus, Joe is the future and should be getting some sort of priority here.
Johnny Baguette
And everyone wonders why England do bad, they have the talent, but clubs like City dont play the english youngsters, once again, well done City you truly are a pathetic club
Rob-EFC
Dont talk out of your back side Rob-EFC, the season hasn't begun, we dont know who the number 1 will be, Joe played regular football last season and went to the world cup. If he's not first choice he'll go on loan and get regular football. You read too much tabloid rubbish.
me_innit
I know this is off topic here, but as a Gooner returning a season after you bought Adebayor, I just want to know what you lot think of him now?
scooch
We'll scooch, personally i find it hard to understand where all this extreme hatred for Ade comes from, i know he wound you up with the celebration but even before that he was still unpopular and accused of being lazy. Might have been the case at Arsenal but he's a different player at City, he's def not lazy at City and as you know a very talented player. Maybe he's learned from his mistakes at Arsenal and we're reaping the benefits. Last season was really tough but he still managed 14 in 26 for us. Since his near death experience he always plays with a smile, i believe he has a different perspective of life now and think he'll be our top scorer this season. I'd be gutted to him go cos he's just getting started. One thing tho when going for headers he seems to jump about 5 secs before everyone else and sometimes misses. Ade has been very good for us so far and im not just saying this cos im a City fan. Sorry for going a bit off topic Tudor.
me_innit
IMHO, and from what I've heard of the word knocking about SportCity scooch, he seems happy and settled.
Johnny Baguette
Rob-EFC You really must be a WUM to print crap like that. Or are you really that stupid? Having read some of your other contributions to the "debate" I'm currently undecided as to which it is.
fifthcolumnblue
I agree with Pedmachine - Joe Hart must be given the chance over Shay, there is no room for sentiment. He's proven that he can play at the highest level and he could go on to be one of the game's greats. Stick your neck out and play him Bobby, he won't want to stick around and watch his England career go down the toilet for being on the bench.
fifthcolumnblue
Hope he comes to Sunderland he would be great until January when Gordon is fully fit
GazJohnson
Guess it would be something like returning the favour Gaz.
