Ireland Packing Underpants For Villa

It's been coming and the ever "in the know" Sky Sports have broken the news that erstwhile City Superman Stephen Ireland is in talks with Aston Villa...

Villa, currently rocked by the stunning resignation of Mad Professor Martin O'Neill for reasons yet to be revealed are pressing ahead with plans to bring in the soon to be 24 year old former Republic of Ireland international as part of City's stealthy bid to secure James Milner.

Ireland has been in wretched form since being named MCFC and VMC's Player Of The Season a couple of campaigns ago. It could be that the player needs a change to reignite the spark in what is without doubt a superb talent.

The defence unlocking vision has deserted Ireland for now and last season many Blues became frustrated with him spending too much time talking to hacks about himself instead of focusing on City.

The MCFC Academy graduate has an admirable 138 appearances and 16 goals under his belt for The Blues.

The Stevie of old will be sorely missed, but in truth, Mancio has given him plenty of opportunities to shine and in this coming no margin for error season, City have no room to risk passengers.

More news on Milnergate as we get it...

In other news, Mancio's Squad continues to take shape, with respect to Andy Smith and The Manchester Guardian...

TBH even though he's done great things for us, I think he's one of the players who would probably just go AWOL when the pressure gets tough (sharp end of the prem, or Chumps league). Look what happened with his 3 grannies when Ireland (the country) got a bit difficult. I wish him all the best, but fear he will need a bit of persuading to join a rudderless team now MON has flown the nest

He needed to take those opportunities by the scruff of his underpants. Instead he looked lost and off the pace. Great contrast to the year before, but the bottom line is to be a top player you have to do it year in year out. Stephen hasn't done this. Sorry to lose him because he is an academy product and as a true City fan I like to see them do well - but for City!

Sell him now before the rest of the Premier League realise that he was just a flash in the pan.

LATEST Tuesday night, Guardian: "Ireland has been valued at £10m, meaning that Villa will receive a further £16m in cash in addition to the former Republic of Ireland midfielder. Should Ireland pull out of the transfer – there is no indication that is likely to happen at the moment despite Martin O'Neill's resignation yesterday – Milner will move to Eastlands in a straight cash deal. Both players have been pencilled in for medicals at their respective new clubs on Thursday and could make their debuts at the weekend....Ireland having signed a lucrative five-year contract with City little more than 12 months ago, will hope to negotiate a sizeable settlement."

Will the same happen to Tevez if he doesn't perform well this season?
redfalcon
I'm sure we'll hear comments prepping you lot soon for that - maybe Tevez being in 'wretched' form, etc....LOL

This is not a done deal - don't be surprised if Mancini names him in the 25

Six seasons in the premiership and only one good season says it all. The good season was down to elano play making behind him and playing through balls for ireland to score. He signed a big contract on the back of good season and got lazy. Ireland looks of the pace badly and is unable to influence games. In pre season he looked awful. I think he would settle in well at everton with arteta playing the strings. But if you are relying on stevie to pull the strings in midfield, it wont happen villa. Ireland is at his best making runs in the box.

Do you guys not think that Ireland + 16m is just a tad too much for a player like Milner?
