VMC's Some Might Say: Liverpool Crushed

Post Match Reaction from the Monday night Eastlands movers and shakers and the VMC Forum history makers...

Roberto Mancini

'I wasn't surprised, because I thought we could play a good game tonight...if we go out on the pitch with a good mentality then we can beat any team. It's hard to score three goals against a team like Liverpool. We needed this win to believe in ourselves.'

The way City controlled Liverpool in front of nevermind His Highness Sheikh Mansour, an assortment of ashen faced Premier League managers was astonishing. But Mancio maintained his by now customary unruffled focus:

'We don't have time to celebrate and I'm very tired tonight! We must prepare for the next game now in only two days.'

The boss revealed to the official site how Sheikh 'ManCity' had checked in discreetly with the team, much in the manner of his flight into Manchester which was shrouded in secrecy:

'We spoke afterwards and he spoke with Carlos as captain. But I didn't speak to him before the game, I didn't even know that he was coming! I hope he will come every week but I don't think that is possible.'

Meanwhile, you won't find many hacks praising the inclusion of 6 Englishmen in the The Citizens starting line up, neither acknowledging the fact that only 2 of Mancio's 6 summer signings played against the stifled Scousers:

'I'm happy with all the players. Tonight there were six English players, which is important. We need an English mentality. James Milner is English and knows the Premier League well. He has a good attitude and everything he needs to do the job. He's strong with a good technique, a fantastic player.'

Roy Hodgson:

'I didn't think we were under the cosh to the extent three nil might suggest and I think we might consider ourselves unlucky with that wonderful double save by Joe Hart.
But we defended poorly for the goals and they took their chances well.

'I thought City played solidly and strongly throughout. They took charge of the game and we were always fighting to get back into it. You just have to accept on a night like tonight that we were unable to produce the level of performance necessary to get a good result.'

Micah Richards:

'It's my goal - Carlos is going to get 20 this season and he got the penalty, so I'm claiming it! I'll be ringing the dubious goals panel in the morning!!'

snowleopard:

'Totally outplayed the Pool for the entire match and a thoroughly deserved victory. What a terrific way to show how good we are and how much we can achieve. Especially on the night the Sheikh came to watch!'

lincoln blue:

'I am impressed..........well pleased with that performance.....looking forward to more of the same!!

Spooks:

'I've waited 18 months to see City play like that. Controlled, patient football. We suffocated them.'

Doody:

'It's quite scary when you think we still have Boateng Kolarov and Balotelli sitting on the bench. We looked so strong for a team that has yet to get to know each others game.....bring it on!

Still room for improvement but that was as good a passing display that i have seen from City in a long time. Considering Mancini has only had FOUR full training sessions with the team the team performance was outstanding.

Keep playing like that and even those who doubt his "3 defensive midfielders" strategy will have to keep quiet. For the record, Yaqya played in an advanced role, and Barry had licence to roam, leaving DeJong as our only out and out DM. Excellent pormation as it allows us to defend and hit on the break whilst away from home, yet totally smother teams at home and enjoy the lions share of possession. Can't wait for Kolarov and Boateng to be fit, as I can see us beeing an even more potent attacking force with them on the pitch.
