VMC Man Of The Match No3 Versus Liverpool

The VMC Forum Posse have spoken and the revitalised Gareth Barry is our Man of The Match from the scintillating stuffing of Liverpool...

It's a measure of how rapidly City's stock has risen that only two years ago, Gareth Barry was a nailed on cert to leave Aston Villa for Liverpool. But as the enormity of the American financial hoodwinking that saw the reds leap into a takeover that saddled them with enormous debt sank in, City signed Barry stealthy under anybody's radar.

Barry had an immediate impact for The Blues but a niggling groin problem persisted through much of last season and his form became erratic.

Yet the signs a couple of weeks into the news season are that he has been galvanised by the presence of YaYa Toure and Nigel De Jong playing alongside him. The arrival of former Villan team mate James Milner served as a catalyst for an upward surge in form against the Merseysiders.

Barry's goal against Liverpool was superbly executed as he pushed forward more and promises more to come.

In our poll result, Johnson and Milner's contributions need no introduction in the terrorising of Liverpool's defence and once again the brilliant Joe Hart and solid as a rock YaYa Toure come in for recognition.

Wont argue with that even though i voted for Milner

Fantastic all round display from Gareth I have to say. Anyone who slated him for his performances at the world cup (and there were many) should remember that he was rushed back from injury and therefore nowhere near fitness. Now that he is fit and has competition for his spot we're seeing the best of him again. I said to the guys I sit with as early as 20mins in that Barry would get the MoTM award. Class act and well deserved.
