'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Brian Marwood Speaks Exclusively

5 Live spoke exclusively to Manchester City Football Administrator Brian Marwood regarding the clubs spending policy as well as laying to rest some of the latest transfer rumours.

Speaking to Brian Alexander, Marwood stated: 'Contrary to what you read and see on TV, there has been a strategic direction on who will be coming into the club and who will be going out.

'It`s become laughable some of the comments about the club. We know the direction we are heading and are confident we will reach the goals we have set ourselves.

'The owners have fast-tracked investment in not just the team, but the whole club. It's not just for now, it`s for the future. Players like James Milner will only get better.

'We now have a squad that will be capable of success for the next four or five years."

HH Sheikh Mansour`s first trip to Eastlands was a great moment for the club, the owner being rewarded with an emphatic 3-0 demolition of Liverpool.

"Everybody appreciates what [Sheikh Mansour] has done for this football club", Marwood enthused, "The refreshing thing for me, with everyone that has been involved, they are in this for the long haul, they want to put something in place that they can enjoy for many years to come.

"We believe that the course that we are set on now will bring everyone the rewards."

The former Nike marketing manager also revealed that Emmanuel Adebayor is definitely staying, while he expects Shay Given to stay and fight for his place.

Refreshing to hear Ade staying.

I'm pleased to hear Marwood going public and setting the record straight.

Good to hear him say Adebayor and Given will stay and fight for their place. That aside, he said nothing that most weren't aware of, but like JB says, it's good to hear from the horses mouth.

If you have the money you are going to spend it but to say that some of the spending hasn't been wreck-less isn't a fair statement. City will have to pay over the odds for players because everyone knows how rich they are!

Vanilla - if City reach their targets will the spending still be reckless?

Don't forget, we were'nt supposed top be able to attract top players this summer!
Johnny Baguette
LOL, yeah, we were told missing out on 4th would kill our chances of attracting Champions League level talent. And every one of our signings is good enough to play in the competition (one of them having won it).
