'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Marwood Opens Up On Squad Selection

For a second time this week, MCFC's Football Adminstrator Brian Marwood has taken a firm stance over club policy, this time with regard to some of our superstar players...

Marwood has already defended City's transfer policy this week and has moved swiftly today to dismiss certain comments.

Emmanuel Adebayor's very public preparedness to do one if not a first choice selection at City led today to Marwood, in Monaco for the Europa League draw reacting in no uncertain terms:

'These players need to realise that if you are paying them, they are salaried, contracted and have obligations to their football club...they are part of the squad. They have to work hard to prove they are worth a place in the team. We are trying to create a very competitive environment at Manchester City.'

Marwood's comments echo the sentiments of respected Liverpool gaffer Roy Hodgson who is fighting a rearguard action against the antics of Javier Mascherano and his agent at Liverpool.

...and upon return from a serious shoulder injury, not the first in his career which has recently required attention in Germany, Shay Given has found himself second choice to the in form and fully fit for months Joe Hart. Given, too has declared his potential unwillingness to fight for his place. Marwood had this to say regarding Adebayor and Given:

'Emmanuel is no different to Shay Given, to other players in the squad who want to be playing. I understand that. I've been there myself. It's frustrating. But if we are to have a successful season we need to have depth in our squad, and Roberto will rotate his squad how he sees fit.'

The guys just need to inderstand that they won't be playing every match...Mancini and his staff will have to work hard on their management skills in order to ensure that this fact gets accepted by the players

The hacks are drooling over these statements from Given and Adebayor. Do either of them think that other big clubs in europe would guarantee them both regular starts?

Players make statements like this when either their egos become greater than their skills or their lazyness is found out by better players coming through...........

I think everyone is conveniently forgetting the fact that Shay didn't return to England after the match in Timisoara - he went to Germany to see a specialist about his shoulder injury. Could the fact that Shay isn't starting games at the moment be down to (SHOCK HORROR!) the fact that he still isn't 100% fit? I don't mean to suggest that the press might be making a mountain out of a molehill, and Shay did make some remarks about considering his future about 3 weeks ago, but honestly! Shay Given is a professional and doesn't strike me as the sulky superstar type. He'll knuckle down, fight for his place and if he's not happy will knock on the manager's door and tell him he wants to go. Anything else is more bullocks from the media.

so now we finally know who is running the show and it seems that its not mancini, he is consulted , but should that not be the other way round?
