Shay Prepared To Be Patient For Now

Eire Number One Shay Given has followed up on his initial declaration that he would leave City if not selected as first choice keeper by stating he will strive to get back in the side...

Few would deny that Seamus has been a success at City. Yet his current situation is down to a combination of bad luck and the brilliant performances of England's Joe Hart.

34 year old Given's serious shoulder injury sustained at the tail end of last season combined with Hart's excellent form meant that Roberto Mancini has chosen to go with Hart for the first five competitive fixtures of the season:

'I have got to put my head down and work hard and try to get back in the team. I don't feel I have done a lot wrong since I have been at the club, so I suppose it's about proving the manager wrong and trying to work hard to get back in the team and if I get a chance, taking that and seeing how it goes. It is frustrating, but this is life at a big club which can buy as many players as it wants. You have got to be patient.'

We're not quite sure what he means in that closing statement as the man who currently wears the gloves has been at the club for four years since he was 19 years old.

That said, Mancio now has what he wants. Two top drawer players in every position.

More than anything else, should City make progress on all three cup fronts, then The Blues playing over 70 fixtures this season is a strong possibility. Shay will almost certainly get plenty of shouts.
