Micah For England?

Micah For England?

City defender Micah Richards is determined to follow City's six established England players into the national squad...

The MCFC Academy graduate who has delivered erratic and if anything numerous unfocused performances for The Blues told th'official site:

'I want to push on and get in the seniors now, and there is no reason why I can't if I'm starting in Manchester City's team...When the boss has confidence in you that definitely helps your game, and for him to say that if I concentrate I can become one of the best defenders in England is quite a compliment to get from your manager.'

Richards has been booked twice in the league this season and his position is under threat in Roberto Mancini's side with giant German Jérôme Boateng nearing full fitness. Yet he maintains he can and will improve. All City fans will dearly hope that one of our own can again reach the highest level of the sport:

'..I think the increased competition in our squad has made me play a little bit better. I want that to continue for the rest of the season...If we can win something for the fans and I'm playing well, then there's no reason why I can't get back in the England squad.'

22 year old Micah has 11 England appearances under his belt with one goal scored since his international debut against Holland in November 2006.

Can Micah become an established England International? Give us a shout both here and in the VMC Forums.

You've really got a battle on your hands to get established in Mancio's squad mate.

Im a Spurs fan and think he will be a RB for England again - but not right now he still has to learn. Johnson is so weak defensively but has the spot for now

Spurs fan too, England need someone other than Glen Johnson, with Johnson playing, neither Lennon, SWP or Wallnut got any service whatsoever, Johnson either takes it himslf, or plays the ball infield,! He works well with less pacey wingers (A Johnson and Milner), but the wingers with pace get nullified! Micah has the brain to bring out the best in any of our wingers

Good points, Spurs. When Micah powers forwared he is frightening for defenders. It's these defensive lapses he has that infuriate City fans. In truth, our profligacy at Sunderland was punished when Micah gave away the penalty. He's a top bloke. Hope he makes it, but there is little or no margin for error at City now.

Micah is still very much a work in progress - if he can cut out the blatantly stupid mistakes that crop up in his game once in a while then he'd be awesome. Unfortunately I can't see him back in the England squad until Capello goes though.

He'll be sorted when Psycho gets the nod!

Lord help us if Pearce becomes England manager! Psycho needs another 5-6 years at club level before he should even be considered IMO. Let twitchy have it - the screams of outrage from the Spuds would be worth the ensuing debacle!

Poor postioning and a inability to read the game. He isnt comfortable on the ball at all. It was no suprise richards gave away the penalty against sunderland. I think managers are amazed with his physical attributes and think they can coach him how to defend. When will the penny drop with richards to make him understand the game properly. As bad as glen johnson is defensively, richards is worse in my opinion. Boateng will be first choice right back.

Must be lies - Mancini never talks to his players.

Richards is rubbish. Admittedly, he wasn't rubbish when we wanted him, but since you told us to eff off he's rubbish now.Tribal nature of football indeed. ;)
