Little Sympathy For Ricky Hatton

Boxing superstar and ardent Manchester City fan, Ricky Hatton appears to have hit an all time low, but do you care?

Apparently not if our last Vital Manchester City front page poll is correct.

A few days ago we asked...

Drug scandal: Should Ricky Hatton be given a second chance?

The following result is in descending order.

Don't care - 46%
Of course he should - 33%
No, he's a druggie - let him get on with it - 21%

The majority of you reading this article will have strong views regarding the taking of Class A drugs and we at Vital Manchester City would love to hear what you have to say.

The following video clip describes how the Ricky Hatton story broke.

Max Clifford, his spokesman, said...

"I have spoken to Ricky; he is very upset and very subdued, very flat."

"He feels he's let everybody that matters down badly, his friends, his family, his fans and of course most of all himself, that he is, in his own words, he's been in a bad place for some time, probably before even his last fight and obviously he's really upset about what has happened but he totally takes responsibility, takes the blame, 'It's all down to me'."

"He just wants to let everybody know how he feels; he's got to sort himself out."

He added...

"I think it is fair to say, friends and family have been trying to warn him in recent times, for the last few months and now they are all hoping this situation will bring him to his senses."

"I think obviously everybody is hoping some good will come out of this."

"He feels devastated and we all hope this will be the wake-up call."

Should he be given a second chance? No, but neither should I. And I've had thousands. I DO have sympathy for him.

It's not so much the coke and the second chance thing i'm bothered about (who hasn't), its how he got to this stage. Every time i saw him in the paper between fights, pint in hand in his city top i cringed, he's not a proper sportsman if he's got no discipline. I never clapped him on the pitch and i never booed him off. I also don't care for the 'celebrity' company he keeps. I do however wish him luck.
