Would Rooney Join Manchester City Debate

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson confirmed earlier today that Wayne Rooney, his only prize asset left at Old Trafford wants to leave.

The why's and wherefores regarding the 24-year-old striker refusing to sign a contract extension can be debated another day, but with only a handful of clubs worldwide able to afford an estimated £50million transfer and wage deal who realistically could afford such an extravagance?

Chelsea
Real Madrid
Barcelona
Bayern Munich

The debate via our forums is certainly beginning to take shape, but on this occasion I would be interested to hear your thoughts via the comments section directly below this article.

£50 million for someone who hasn't scored from open play since 30th March - enuff said!

No one will pay £50 million for Rooney because a). he'd be available for next to nothing a window after next and b). he is openly unhappy at the club, giving the rags very little leverage in negotiations. 20-30 mil at most I reckon. Jamie Redknapp on Sky reckons personal terms already agreed. I hope not - no doubt a brilliant player in form but not one I long to see in a City shirt. Would prefer Dzeko still.

I herd he wonts to move to Spain cause the P........ are cheaper muhahaa lol 50million, wow you can buy me for £300 a week and are do overtime training :)
Blitz
£5m to buy his contract out now- or FREE if you wait for it to expire. He is the only asset United has got, and he is leaving for next to nothing! Loving it.

I can (slightly) understand Tevez not fully understanding his actions when joining you guys (tho I think the penny fully dropped when THAT image went up LMFAO!) BUT Rooney ? We all know he's not got smarts but please. 1st he leaves Everton to go to erm near MANCHESTER ! He can't seriously move to Manchester (finally !) could he ? Really ??? A much better deal/prospect surely (no offence) is with Real, not only would he be united with Ronaldo but he will have the opportunity to work with the Special 1, not to mention the abundance of the other Super Stars ! Utd have apparently been offered Lassana Diarra, Benzema + £20M. Not only do they get a like for like replacement (& long term target) but a battling DMF they SO desperately require + a cool £20M ! Then again we all thought Barry was destined for Liverpool & look how that turned out !

I'm sure C'leen wouldn't care where he played as long as she got payed enough for it! But can't see Rooney wanting to play as a defensive midfielder,,,

A year ago this would have been a dream signing, but now? Honestly, where would we play him? He clearly didn't work with Tevez too often and I don't want to ruffle El Capitans' feathers further. No thanks Wayne, rekindle your career at Chelski mate. Dzeko by far a better bet
