Tevez Homesick?

Tevez Homesick?

Why on earth does Roque Santa Cruz consider it to be his business to comment on Carlos Tevez being homesick?

Is it a deliberate attempt to continue to unsettle the goal machine in a futile attempt to try and get some match time, or in the absence of Euro-Football this week have the scribes, hacks and broadcasting media got nothing else to talk about?

Footballers playing their trade outside their own country have notoriously become homesick, going back to the daya of Denis Law's ill-fated short stay in Turin. John Charles may have lasted a bit longer, but one after the other whether it was UK-based players seeking to play in Europe or South Americans seeking the same, it's just what happens.

The fact that they might be earning £150k per week during what is a relatively short career does not compensation for this. They are young men, generally, leaving home for the first time and they discover that the big wide world is a long way from what they have seen of life so far.

When I was 18 I was moved to London with my job. Living initially in a hostel in Bayswater, then in a spare room in Barnet was a long way from my mum, and indeed Maine Road. I stuck it for a year then took a reduction in salary to get back home. Similarly when another job took me to Hull and the North East, much more friendly places but still not Manchester.

So why is it different for a footballer. The answer is that it isn't. We have seen it with Robinho and as soon as he gets injured in Milan, he will have another soujourn in Brazil and the boat will rock again.

Santa Cruz is 29 and has been about in Europe for a while, 10 years in fact so he has managed to settle in some shape of form, but it doesn't suit everyone.

We have heard Tevez murmurings and we probably expect him to leave at some point but it is not really for Santa Cruz to put his oar in.

Clubs have hardly been beating the door down to take Santa Cruz off our hands, and if he seriously makes an effort to get noticed by Mancini, then I'm sure notice would have been taken. Those of us who go to Eastlands every week have seen no commitment form Santa Cruz since the day he doubled his money and signed for City. He has spent far too much time on the treatment table and one wonders if he has the same injury as Saha - i.e. none, but it is in his head.

He tells us he wants away to play in Spain. Well Roque if anyone in Spain wants you then off you go, but believe me it won't be Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia. You are looking at Malaga, Mallorca, Hercules and a winter of toil. Are you cut out for it, Roque? I don't think so. You may be on the way to re-join Mark at Fulham. You will have to show much more than you have shown us at Eastlands.

I wonder what someone like Tevez would think if he read the papers and saw that Santa Cruz has (apparently) told the press he's homesick. Whether true or not, it is none of Crocky's business to reveal Tevez's personal details to the parasitical media vermin. Not only has he been a complete waste of money for his "footballing", Crocky also can't keep his mouth shut with the press. Hughes has a lot to answer for after spending close to 50 mil on Santa Cruz and Lescott. Yet the media saw fit to begin a crusade against us for sacking "the best young British manager" (who ended up at Fulham, where he is doing a poor man's Roy Hodgson impression) despite wasting Sheikh Mansour's pocket money on his pet projects.

Remarks attributed to Carlos Tevez regarding his homesickness his unhappiness with the World Cup and his being to old to play football may be a result of clinical depression, the ever growing heirarchy at City should investigate.

HAHA The top mercenary Tevez does not want to play for city anymore... buhuuu. Of course he doesnt, United didnt want him, so he went for the gold pot.. Now he realises that City aint ever gonna win nothing, so he plays the homesick card.. hahaha karma...

nord- i wouldnt laugh too loudly mate, as a spurs fan it seems to me that we were chasing the wrong manchester at the start of the season. you can say he went for money or whatever you like but only a fool would bet against city winning anything. i think its the other side of manchester that are more likely to end up trophyless and its the same red side of manchester that i believe have the greater chance of not finishing in the top 4 this season!!!!

He's never even been given a proper chance at eastlands, seems you folks seem to be getting just a bit touchy that your best players mate has revealed that they both wants to leave. This place is quickly turning into quite the dictatorship under your new regime. Whats wrong with what Santa cruz has said? tevez himself has said the same thing. Mancini is an absolute idiot and an egotistical one at that. He won the title at inter because they were either handed to him or there was no competition, and even then he was still replaced. He's utter ***** when it comes to tactics, playing with 3 holding players (yaya's not a creative force) when he could field two quality strikers instead. Selling city's best players in the last two years, ireland and bellamy (and robinho as well, inconsistent maybe but definitely one of the best players to have played for your club) and getting milner and barry as replacements. Paying 220k a week for an ex bench warmer (yaya) when he probably would've settled for loads less, and in one swift masterstroke making him lazy in the knowledge that hes (unjustifiably) the leagues highest payed player, instead of fighting for his place to try to prove that he deserves to be there. Your team could probably be up there challenging for the title with the right management and with the players you have, but thankfully with an idiot at the helm who clashes and alienates all his players, we'll probably finish above you this year. Again. COYS

CB25 keep dreaming I watched Man Circus play against blackpool, where they were completely outplayed in the first half, and it was utterly undeserved 3 points they got from that game. Against Arse they were a joke, if you truly believe the will end up in top 4 you are having a laugh.. United have not played well .. Yet, but still havent lost a game.. Dont worry about United, they will win the league wheras city with the *****e coach, and players only there for the dough, will not even finish in top 6.. Spuds will not qualify for CL, you were lucky last season. Anyways you will sell Bale to United.

We were lucky last season were we? United will win the title? Players only there for dough? Mate it sounds like your the one who's having the laugh not cb25yid, completely delusional. So many things wrong with what you said don't even know where to start. Players only there for the dough, i mean i agree with that and everything but its quite cheap saying that a week after agreeing to pay a player who's been playing ***** for the larger part of the year 200+k a week. Pot calling kettle black? City will end up in the top 4, and probably win the title in time, just don't think that'll happen this year. And bale knows better than to join a club spiralling downwards in terminal decline with a manager going soft and a mediocre squad with the few quality players there wanting out (not just rooney evra as well). Wouldn't it be ironic now if united lost its 'first game' against spurs in a couple of weeks time, or even city for that matter?

A United fan here (nordkap)? Seven words for him: "Reject" Tevez five times better than Shrek.

Hey shire - you're right mate except that RSC took back his statement in less than 24hrs. He now says Carlos is very happy and will see out his contract to 2014.
