International week is upon us once again and in the absence of any sensible midweek matches to keep the hacks happy, once again they focus on things Man City. Is City the Sheikh's toy or is it the hacks plaything?
It is only Tuesday and we're buying Dzeko and Alves and showing the exit door to Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Zabaleta and now Adam Johnson and Balotelli.
Gentlemen - none of this is news. It is simply a regurgitation of past speculation and creation of new speculation as usual unfounded.
Adebayor chats to someone from Juventus at the recent match and the papers deduce he is looking for a move there. Balotelli goes with the Boss to watch the Milan derby and he's trying to get a move to AC having already tried his luck at Inter. Some second rate Spanish or Italian outfit like the look of Zaba (don't we all) and he is off there. Johnson mentions he might in the end have to seek first team football somehwere else and he is looking for out. How pathetic.
We have been chasing Dzeko for years and Alves would interest anyone, so it not just City who are in the frame there is it?
I suspect some of the exponents of this type of journalism are having a day when they can't be bothered leaving their house. Ice on the car, big queue at the Station, sit in the warm and make something up. Yeah Mancini's under pressure (well we think he is but we might have made that up)let's unsettle a few more of his footballers and see what we can stir up.
Now City may have been devoid of seeing the back of the net bulge too much lately but the same cannot be said for other teams who have taken our players either on loan or on permanent moves lately.
Nedum Onuoha scored an unbelievable goal for Sunderland against Chelsea exemplifying the value of a positive and attacking approach against the so-called best of sides.
Vlad Weiss got one for Rangers too. We would all have loved to see him out there getting on the scoresheet for City. Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0.
Further down the leagues Ashley Grimes scored Lincoln's winner against Morecambe with James Poole doing likewise for Hartlepool against Brighton. He must have Jeff Stelling doing cartwheels.
So have we got something wrong here? We buy up millions of pounds worth of scoreless talent, Tevez excepted and soon, hopefully Balotelli, whilst our kids are over the country banging in winners. Even poor old Marton Fulop put through his own net, scoring for Barnsley against his host Club Ipswich. Keano no doubt not doing cartwheels.
Like most City fans I too have tried to hang on to the thought of our youngsters making it to the first team and then staying there. We let players go, they deliver the goods. The ones we keep don't, do they Shaun, Micah?
Food for thought Mr Mancini - instead of Santa Cruz on the bench at weekend what about John Guidetti?
