Two of City's potentially most important players in the second half of the season are the subject of contrasting injury news from Carrington...
Roberto Mancini confirmed today that David Silva is in with a shout of starting against Wolves at the weekend following the whack he sustained in the difficult win over Blackpool:
'He has responded well to treatment and may be ready to face Wolves on Saturday. We will assess him today and tomorrow and then make a decision on whether he is ready or not for the weekend.'
Silva's stunning creativity was sorely missed during City's draws at Arsenal and Leicester and there is no doubt whatsoever that the Spaniard's form and fitness will be crucial to City as the quest for honours goes up a gear.
Meanwile, the enigmatic Mario Balotelli has the capability to fire City to glory, but the knee injury he picked up in Timisoara last year will not go away and there is a possibility that the giant striker will face a second round of surgery:
'Mario's knee is not so good at the moment and I think we won't know how long it will be before he is back playing for maybe two or three weeks. It's a blow for him and for us, but we are hoping that he will be back sooner rather than later.'
One player who will be monitoring Super Mario's progress will be Emmanuel Adebayor whose City career is now effectively on hold. Mancio will be reluctant to release the Togolese hitman should Balotelli's injury persist.
