'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wright-Phillips Back In The Frame

Adam Johnson's cruel long term injury blow could be the catalyst for the re-ignition of Shaun Wright-Phillips' City career...

SWP looked to be on his way out of Eastlands last month amid rumours that he had submitted a transfer request. Roberto Mancini confirmed that the erstwhile MCFC Academy graduate was available but nothing materialised. Suddenly, the 29 year old England winger found himself making a lively if late substitute appearance in the victory over West Brom.

City Coach David Platt:

'What we had prior to January was a squad, when all fit, of 24 or 25 players and Shauny found himself out of it a few times.
...It did not work out for him in terms of moving away but he is a consummate pro. He has trained exceptionally well as he has done all season. He gives you a lot of pace and attacking ability. We are not stupid enough not to realise he might be important to us between now and the end of the season.'

Certainly, it will not do the City squad any harm to hold on to players who know the club inside out such as SWP and Micah Richards going into the business end of the season.

He has been carrying an injury Carl, hence why he didn't start against Brimingham. Would absolutely love Shaun to have a bit of an Indian summer at City, just hope he still has it in him.

The man that the rags used to fear most! Whenever he'd play, they would hack and kick at his legs to try and injure him. I remember him making a fool of Evra when Evra had just joined them. Not sure if he could have the same impact anymore, though.
