Yaya's Bold Approach Mirrors Rising City Spirits

Yaya's Bold Approach Mirrors Rising City Spirits

Yaya Toure is adamant that Manchester City can become a major European footballing force. With The Blues active on three fronts right now, morale is high at SportCity...

City fans across Planet Blue are still getting used to having serious objectives in February, nevermind where we'll be in two years time!

But it won't do any harm whatsoever for a City player to talk up his club's aspirations.

There has been something of a sea change in City player interviews this season. The likes of Given, Santa Cruz, Bellamy and Adebayor relentlessly talk about themselves rather than the clubs that employ them, whereas in recent months we've seen key City players increasingly talk about the cause rather than whether they should be playing or not or where they will go next.

The calmly focused Patrick Vieira, Roberto Mancini's dressing room elder statesman has certainly led by example with that approach.

Yaya has told The Currant Bun:

'In a couple of years we could be better than Barcelona. What we need to do is continue to work hard and improve with every game...You cannot compare Barcelona with City right now because Barca are at the top and have top quality players...I keep saying to my brother Kolo and my family that City have great players but we need to continue to work hard to become great.'

Of course, these words have met with another wave of anti-City propaganda across the media, but more and more hacks and the bitterest of rivals are becoming resigned to the fact that Manchester City aren't going to be going away meekly into the night anymore. We'll keep coming back.

There was a telling couple of moments in the aftermath of City's 5-0 FA Cup win over Notts County. citytv filmed the regular post match interview with Roberto Mancini. It was clear from discussions in the background outside the dressing room and Mancio's interaction with Yaya himself that all those desperate stories of poor morale in Mancio's squad are questionable.

This is indeed encouraging from a player who has been there and done that. He like a number of our current players are still getting to grips with life in the PL, but once that trigger gets pulled......watch this space.

While I have consistently maintained that its only a matter of time before City win the PL, at no point can the club be compared with Barcelona. The current Barca team is a freak of nature. 8 home grown players from the La Masia academy are part of the Barca team which plays football from another planet. When City win trophies they will be compared with Chelsea and not Barcelona. The philosophies of the City & Barca can not be compared and no sports writer or football neutral will equate the two clubs.

Ok then Yaya, whatever you say.

Delta - I don't think Yaya is drawing them sort of comparisons he's merely saying City could be a better team in a couple of years. I don't share his view tbh, as I think it will take longer for City to be competing consistently well at that level.

It's good to see the banter between Mancini and Yaya in that video, yet more evidence that Mancini is not as stone cold with his players as the media make him out to be.

That is a good video and shows that the players are happy enough with the manager. Doubt that it will quell the mongs who like to stir though.

Have we had a change of heart by Yaya, The media was full of Yaya wants to go back, and that was when he had only just got here. I am not sure where Yaya's best postion is yet, but while we have De Jong, it seems that a big strong boy like Yaya does well up front and does score every now and again.
