Kolo Toure In Drugs Test Shocker

Let's get those upcoming headlines out of the road.

Manchester City have this evening released a statement regarding City's former captain Kolo Toure...The statement will leave the club's supporters somewhat bewildered at a crucial stage of the season's campaign:

'Manchester City confirm that the FA has informed Kolo Toure that an 'A-sample' provided by him has tested positive for a specified substance.

As result of this, he has been suspended from participating in all first team and non-first team matches pending the outcome of the legal process.

There will be no further comment from the football club at this stage.'

Right, can I point one very pertinent thing out? Kolo (and Yaya) are both extremely devout Muslims. Neither of the Toures drinks or takes drugs. It is extremely unlikely that Kolo would take any banned substance deliberately, so my suspicion is that if a positive test was returned, Kolo has either accidentally taken some over the counter medication (ie some cold remedies contain ephedrine - the substance that Maradonna got done for in USA94) or been spiked. The hacks will undoubtedly try to make as much as they can out of this, as nobody seems to sell newspapers like Manchester City these days, but I am extremely confident that Kolo Toure has not wilfully done anything that would jeopardise his position at Manchester City or adversely effect ourr club.

i will reserve judgement until we find out why the test was positive could be something minor or something serious. not great timing tbf

Innocent until proven guilty. But if it is true then how shamefull to blow a wonderful career.
P.Avfc
WTF - I can't believe this but, and like P.Avfc says, he's innocent until proven guilty. I have the faith in Kolo.
Tudor
Really shocking news. Can't believe it. First thoughts are if a legal process is underway that it's not something minor like some sport-banned performance enhancer. I really hope the info is wrong, but I can't see why it would be.
Rocky7
I would be more than astonished. As fifth says the Toure boys are genuine guys. I can't see it being anything performance-enhancing or other forms of cheating. The problem then is it may be something more sinister. Lokks like a mickey finn job to me

I think by "legal process" the cl;ub means the World anti-doping agency will be following their procedures of investigation in such cases, rather than him about to be busted for posession! As I said, Kolo is a devout Muslim, even going so far as to not drink in matches played in daylight during Ramadan. If there is a banned substance involved it is almost certainly not a recreational one, and it is almost certainly something he will have taken accidentally. There are vast numbers of medications, herbal remedies, etc. that you or I can take at will, but that can get athletes into trouble with the testers. At least Kolo didn't hide for 24 hours to allow the drugs to clear his system - unlike certain other locally based defenders i could mention!
fifthcolumnblue
I'd like to think you're right FCB, but would Man City really susspend him from ALL action for a packet of lockets or a lemsip? You would hope that your club would stand up for you if it was an innocent mistake. I want as much as you City fans for this to be an error, I love Kolo, he's an Arsenal legend, but this seems highly susspicious.
Rocky7
naughty naughty - tar and feather him!

I once failed a 'bedroom drawer drugs test'. It was a joint mother and father raid, classic. I was banned from going out for a single Saturday night, lets hope Kolo is more innocent than i was. I'm hoping, praying and thinking he will be.

I guess noone will know until there's more news from the club Rocky. I know he's an Arsenal Legend, and he's regarded with some fondeness in Manchester nowadays too, so I guess we'll all have to hope for the best. Just remember though, that Paddy kenny got suspended for 9 months for taking an over-the-counter cough medicine that contained ephedrine. Not the act of a cheat at all, but top athletes aren't meant to take anything without the say-so of the club's doctors, so I'm hoping he's just been a bit forgetful!
fifthcolumnblue
Here here Fifth! At least he wasn't out on the town with a couple of ho's the night before then decided to give the test a swerve. Yes Famous, i just made up a slanderous remark which may or may not have some substance, a bit like his blood i suppose.........................
RobsonGreensleeves
SSN are reporting that the situation is said to be related to a diet supplement he has taken.
Johnny Baguette
Lest we forget, certain nasally ingested powders only stay in one's system for 24 hours Robson! LOL
fifthcolumnblue
24 hrs keeps popping up....................
