'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wenger Speaks Out in Support Of Kolo

Arsene Wenger has won the respect of many City fans by having taken time out to contact Kolo Toure and then speak out in support of the beleaguered City star...

...following the revelation that the 29 year old Ivory Coast international has failed a Football Association drugs test.

At today's press conference the Arsenal gaffer said:

'It is a complete surprise because I had Kolo Toure here for years, I brought him here. He is a boy who has a clean life. He's very honest living, always at home, a family man, and I don't suspect him at all to have taken drugs to enhance his performances.'

It was reported last night that Toure may have taken a dietary supplement pill and Wenger has gone some way to confirming that:

'I think it is a mistake...He was not cautious enough. I don't think there's a desire there to do something wrong and hide it. He wants to control his weight a little bit because that's where he has some problems and he took the product off his wife. I just think it is a mistake by forgetting to ask, 'Can I take that?'

Why did Man City suspend Toure? Rather odd considering nothing is set in stone just yet. Seems a ridiculous affair over a stuid dietary supplement pill, can guarnatee the FA will slap him with a ridiculous ban
Rob-EFC
We think the club suspension is something to do with PL rules Rob.
Johnny Baguette
That stupid dietary supplement pill could get Kolo up to a two year ban Rob, or if common sense prevails he'll just get a warning. City could also face disciplinary action if they don't suspend Kolo until it is sorted out.

If this was Balotelli everyone would be calling for his head like Rio. But not nice boy Kolo. I think Kolo has made an honest mistake and i hope the FA are lenient, but in no way can drug use be tolerated in Sport and some kind of ban is needed certianly even if its for a silly sod like Rio Ferdinand missing a test to another clown like Toure not knowing what hes taking as a diet pill or whatever.

Wengers always had my respect. I think he just goes mad every now and then. Probably something to do with the moon.

i was gutted when kolo left us, he was and still is a great player and team member and will always have the respect of gooners i think it is inconcievable that he would ever knowingly take any sort of drug or performance enhancing dietry supplement i hope the fa take a step backwards, and ignore all the media hype and deal with this in a sensible and fair manner he would be a great loss to city, and an even bigger loss to the game hope all turns out okkay for him and city

I hope that the FA take a lenient view of Kolo's case if they find out that the banned substance in his blood is not linked to a recreational or performance enhancing drug.

Why is it Wenger who is telling the media what it was that Kolo has been taking and not your very own manager? Surely it should be Mancini defending his player and not his ex-gaffer. I'm sure he will get off with it if it is a simple case of diet pills, but in football, you never know.
TheFamousNo7
As commendable as it is Wenger coming out and speaking so highly of Kolo I'm not sure whether it was the smartest move for him to divulge the details to the media. The club released their statement giving away very little information in what they said just making sure what was relevant to the pubic at this stage was known. I'm assuming they didn't go into detail because there is a legal process ongoing.
Bluedub
Possibly because our club are determined to avoid comment until all the facts are known Famous? Our manager does still talk to the media (unlike certain managers I could mention) but is probably maintaining a dignified silence in order not to further muddy the waters and lead to a full-on feeding frenzy amonst the media.

Surely knowing it was only dietary pills makes you feel a bit more at ease though? He could be telling a fib of course but, like you said, he's an honest man.
TheFamousNo7
To be honest TF7, anyone that knows Kolo's lifestyle would have been aware that it was something as innocent as this when the news broke. It doesn't really give any ease to the situation as regardless of it being a silly mistake he could still face a lengthy ban.
