VMC's Some Might Say: City Gathering Momentum

Roberto Mancini's cunning introduction of Edin Dzeko at Blackburn realised a potentially historic win. Post match reaction from Ewood Park and here on VMC...

Roberto Mancini:

'In the first half we played a fantastic game, we should have scored two goals minimum. In the second half the game changed, Blackburn played very strong and hard...I'm very happy for Edin because he deserves to score, he is a good player and a good man.

'If Chelsea lose all their games and we win, we can be in second position - anything is possible! But now it is important that we continue to win when we play West Ham.'

David Platt:

'It was a tense atmosphere out there. It was important to battle throughout the ninety minutes and that's what we did...Getting to the FA Cup Final was a great springboard for us. The manager was fantastic after the Liverpool defeat. We only had five days to prepare for the semi final and he made sure we forgot about it straight away. Equally after that game we made sure we kept our equilibrium and got back into our groove.

'This was a big game for us...This is a good three points, it's a good gap for us and we have a good goal difference. All we can do is concentrate now on the road we are on.'

Edin Dzeko:

'Now we have to look at the future - today was very good, it is a new beginning for me and for City. I'm very happy that this goal helped my team to win the game...I'm not the first who didn't make the best start but I'm happy because I scored today and helped the team. I want to thank all City fans for their support."

Nigel De Jong:

'We have to aim for the highest position and a lot of rivals have dropped points. The only thing we can do is focus for the last couple of games and try and get three points every time we go out. We have to remain focused and you never know we could get third but at least fourth.

'It's been a tough couple of months for Dzeko but he gets stronger and stronger each day and we're happy that he scored today that gave us three points. But it's a collective thing, not an individual thing and we are just happy that we can progress towards the end of the season and collect another very welcome three points.'

Steve Kean:

'We're bitterly disappointed, we gave it a right go. We're gutted we didn't get anything tonight but if we play like that, we've got a great chance...On the goal, Balotelli was right in front of Paul Robinson so I'm saying that was offside.'

Thai Blue Fan:

'That was a very, very important three points.'

Blue Billy:

'Not an easy watch. Went for Dzeko, that goal was absolutely massive, a 0-0 draw and Spurs would have been right back in it.'

eighthsin:

'We did okay considering we were on a comedown after the awesome feeling of the derby victory. It was always going to be difficult to get our minds focused on the task in hand, but we ground out the win and claimed a vital 3 points. Very pleased for Edin - hope this will give him the confidence to go on and bang in some more.'

rojo 2010:

'Wasn't pretty but what an important, crucial result.'

Brutto:

'I like it! A long overdue away win, and a vital one.'

Robinwho?:

'Question is was that goal worth £27.5 million? Answer is YES! And another clean sheet!'
