Guidetti Eyes Summer City Exit

Manchester City EDS top scorer John Guidetti has turned down a new contract to remain with the Citizens, choosing instead to leave the club as a free agent in the summer.

The Swedish striker netted a hattrick for City's Elite Development Squad in a convincing 4-0 victory over Stockport in the Manchester Senior Cup on Wednesday.

His form has led to the 19-year-old featuring on the bench in a number of games for Roberto Mancini's side, although the young Swede feels he can secure more playing time elsewhere.

Speaking to Sportbladet, Guidetti stated: 'It's a good contract but simply not good enough.

'There are better alternatives. My contract expires this summer and then it's time to move.

'It's a perfect situation. I am a striker who should play in one of the best leagues.'

The situation raises the question - why his contract was allowed to run down to just a few months before offering an extension?

What are your thoughts on Guidetti seeking a move? Is he the new 'Daniel Sturridge'?

Its a shame he's looking for pastures new but with a lad of his talent he needs to be playing competative footy. Good luck to him.

No idea why his contract was allowed to run down like it has. He is certainly a good prospect with a lot of confidence and determination to succeed. I'm sure he will do well wherever he ends up.
eighthsin
I expect he'll end up in the Championship to start off with eighthsin and then after that who knows.
tudor
Possibly, he is allowed to talk to other clubs now so i'm sure he has something lined up. Wouldnt rule out a move to somewhere like Serie A.

He has a big ego but is very good at EDS level, should have been given a chance instead of Woe... I mean Jo. I remember Juventus had an eye on him, I think he may go to Italy as he nearly went to Sampdoria instead of us. BTW, don't think we can lose him on a free at his age, there should be some decent compo like with the youngest mercenary ever, Sturridge (still wish he had stayed though).

Agreed regarding a compensation fee StuMCFC. At his age we would most certainly receive something.

This isn't really news - he said almost a year ago that he didn't want to wait around to try to force his way into the team and wouldn't sign a new contract. Clearly the club made an effort by offering him a new and improved deal, but if he won't take it, well then my advice to him is to avoid door/arse contact on the way out. Plenty more fish in the sea, and if he doesn't think he's good enough to force his way into the reckoning then let him go to Chelsea - I mean Bolton. See Ya!

Harry Bunn is making lightning fast progress at EDS level so should be able to fill Guidetti's shoes fast enough. He's only just been promoted from the academy to the reserves and is scoring plenty of goals already. Comparisons to Shearer may be a bit over the top but he really does look good at this level of his progression (and is a Mancunian lad + City fan so won't be in any hurry to leave).

If he is as good as he thinks he is we would not have allowed his contract to run out. Having said that I wish him all the very best at his new club.

I have been full of praise for Guidetti's application since he came to City. He is a great guy and deserved to get his opportunity with the first team. It is easy for him to get goals at EDS level. Stockport had a very young side out because many of their youth players are in their first team or at least the squad. John is in danger of falling into the trap of playing for himself and not the team. Many times he spurns the pass that sets someone else up in favour of a shot that cannons off a defender. That said we should make sure we keep him and then send him on a season-long loan to develop himself as a footballer.

what is this all our top scores leaving the club..unbelievable..

If he’s good enough why does he want to leave, surely if he’s good enough he could get into the first team.
ADTilson
Mancini doesn't rate him as highly as Jo...... says it all really.
RobsonGreensleeves
Not rated as highly as Jo? Jeeze, that really does speak volumes Robson!
fifthcolumnblue
That didn't sound right! not anti Mancio!
RobsonGreensleeves
No, speaks volumes about Guidetti! Seriously, he's been great for the EDS, but he didn't set the world on fire when he was at Burnley. I really just don't think he's ready for the step up just yet - suspect he will be in a couple of seasons, but if he wants to leave then so be it. Jo on the otherr hand will never improve! :)

I think it's immensely disappointing when a young player makes these kind of noises. He's been knocking on the door of a start for a short while and he clearly isn't prepared to tough it out. Bad advice from somewhere?
Johnny Baguette
Johnny: His own head I think. I rate Guidetti and think he'll do well - not sure if he'll be a top top player but could hack it in a top league I think - but the kid is extremely arrogant and cocky, and rates himself very highly.
