'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Man City's FA Cup Winner's Son Talks To VMC

Manchester City's Hall of Fame and FA Cup Final winners' son, Fred Tilson Jnr talks to Vital Man City.

Fred Tilson Snr is one of only three footballers to score four goals in the 1934 FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa in 1934 in a 6-1 hammering at Huddersfield. Tilson went on to score both City's goals in the FA Cup Final at Wembley against Portsmouth in a 2-1 win after being 1-0 down at half time. Fred scored the winner three minutes from time.

Fred is one of only two people to score a six goal aggregate for the FA Cup Semi and Final - the other person was Sandy Brown from Spurs in 1901.

Fred Tilson Jnr told Vital Manchester City...

'I never made it as a footballer but I was hoping my son would but when he was 5-years-old we found out he was suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which is a muscle wasting illness mainly boys get it (from birth). My son Carl is now 24 and is practically paralysed - he lives in a wheelchair; he can't eat, has to be fed by tube and has a rod in his back.

He has to have a bag on his leg for his waterworks and has to be moved on and off by hoist only, yet he is the most inspiring person I have ever seen.'

Fred's grandson, Carl Tilson is a champion in his own right after winning 2009/10 Mancunian of the Year. Carl is a huge City fan and active member of Vital Man City.

Enjoy the day Carl and give us a wave from Wembley mate.
