And still this season's accolades come. Joe Hart holds the Golden Gloves. Carlos Tévez is the current joint Golden Booter and Tony Pulis rates Manchester City...
THE MANAGEMENT:
Roberto Mancini:
'It was a fantastic performance by the players, especially so soon after the FA Cup Final so I'm very happy with this victory. It was important that we kept our concentration and we did. Our main aim this season was to qualify for the Champions League, but now we have a very good chance of finishing third which would be perfect.'
Carlos Tévez was sensational and the City boss revealed that as far as he is concerned the man referred to by rag smugfest United We Stand as a 'dog chasing a stick' upon leaving the swamp will be staying at Eastlands. The Argentinian has now scored 53 goals in 77 City starts:
'I think he will stay here next season and he has told me he wants to stay. He has a five-year contract at this football club and I don't think there are any problems. I have spoken with him many times over the last three weeks and it's my opinion he will remain a Manchester City player.'
Turning to Sunday's crucial fixture at the Reebok Stadium which will be swamped with travelling City fans, Mancio said:
'I don't think the game with Bolton will be easy and we must play as well as we did against Stoke in order to beat them, but Arsenal have a difficult game at Fulham, too. We have only one game left and I think there is a big difference between finishing fourth and having to qualify for the Champions League and third where you go straight into the group stage. We are third and we want to finish third.'
Tony Pulis:
'City are going to be a force. They have got power and they have got great ability and great pace. They have got all the tools that you want to go into battle with.
'They are a bit like Chelsea were a few years ago. They have got that balance of pace, power and strength.
'They are going to join United and Chelsea as one of the powers in this country.'
Pulis and his team were applauded off by a pulsating Eastlands. The Blues refused to rub The Potters noses in it by keeping the FA Cup under wraps. Pulis had this to say for his side's campaign:
'It's been a great season for us in a lot of respects, getting to the FA Cup final, hopefully finishing in the top 10 and getting into Europe, you couldn't have dreamed of it really.'
THE VMCers:
Buzz Lightyear:
'Passing was better and first to the second ball everytime. Three super goals and well worth watching.'
rojo2010:
'Wicked performance!'
BlueDub:
'Delighted for Lescott, he deserved that goal on the back of his performances the last couple of months. Milner and Johnson also impressed tonight. It's a shame SWP didn't get on the scoresheet. Well in City, roll on third place.'
StuMCFC:
'Brilliant performances by several. Tevez's goals were magic but Lescott was the best overall player today for me.'
BlueBilly:
'Lescott again had a faultless performance, but Tevez worked as hard as ever and his goals were magnificent....Rooney's over-head-shin will obviously win goal of the season, because, well, it's Rooney, but Tevez's 2 goals tonight should both be genuine contenders, along with his first against Wolves, all showed far more skill and technique than Shrek's. The free-kick in particular was absolutely stunning.'
NZ Blue:
'Marvelous Carlos, back with vengeance today. Many hope that you are still in a City shirt next season.'
