What Makes Manchester's Two Tribes?

In footballing terms Manchester has two tribes. Those who support Manchester City and those who support Manchester United

Tribal definition:

1. A unit of sociopolitical organization consisting of a number of families, clans, or other groups who share a common ancestry and culture and among whom leadership is typically neither formalized nor permanent.

2. A political, ethnic, or ancestral division of ancient states and cultures.

3. A group of people sharing an occupation, interest, or habit: a tribe of graduate students.

4. A large family.

5. Biology: A taxonomic category placed between a subfamily and a genus or between a suborder and a family and usually containing several genera.

One doesn't have to be born in Manchester to support either team, just look at the amount of so-called Man United fans who are based outside of the North-West of England. I am thinking of those who live in and around the London area and have never stepped foot anywhere near Manchester.

What made you support the Blue half of Manchester and why? Oh and if you are a Red and happen to stumble upon this article please feel free to add your own opinion.

Well at least he had a dig at the rags but I'm left wondering why the author of the Grauniad article is staring dramatically into space on his avatar?
