Man City Accept Villa Offer For Shay Given

Vital Manchester City understands MCFC has agreed a fee with Aston Villa for keeper Shay Given and by all accounts the deal should go through, pending a medical as early as next week.

Both clubs are keeping their lips sealed regarding the transfer figure, however City are expected to take a hit from when the club paid Newcastle £7 million in 2009.

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper is regarded as one of the best keepers in the Premier League but Joe Hart's emergence as first-choice keeper for club and country forced Given onto the City bench for most of last season, with the 113-cap international restricted to just four cup appearances.

Both Manchester City and Aston Villa are expected to make an announcement in due course.

A contact of mine has told me Shay has today taken his Villa medical, the only thing he didn't know was whether he passed or not.

Shame to see him leave but he did have shortcomings which the season before cost us many points and for me 2 defeats by Stretford

Brave decision by Mancio to leave a player of Shays calibre on the bench all season. Credit to Shay for not rocking the boat. Bona fortuna Mr Given!

I understand that the fee is around 3.5 - 4m...I also understand that he is taking a big pay cut to play which is very nice to hear.

I wish Ade would do the honourable thing and follow in Shay's footsteps (take a pay cut and move one). Come on Spurs, take this useless pile of **** off our hands.

£3.5m? What a steal for the Villa. I'd have hoped we negotiated first dibs on your best players for selling him so cheaply, but then I realised - we've already had them all! LOL.

Well you had milner who was the only loss to us...Not exactly your gain now fifth is it, moved on from that one.
