Who Will Be In City's 25-Man Premier League Squad?

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is well aware of the important decision he'll have to make when he submits his 25-man Premier League squad.

The list has to be submitted to the Premier League HQ once the summer window transfer closes on 31 August and unless there are exceptional circumstances the named squad cannot be altered or changed until January 2012.

Players omitted from Mancini's list are of course eligible to play in other competitions such as the Champions League, FA Cup and the League Cup but on this occasion I want to focus solely on the domestic league.

The following list of players are currently contracted to Manchester City Football Club. I also appreciate between the date this article was published and the end of the transfer window one or two players will be sold or loaned out but based on the information I have at my disposal, this is my list.

Goalkeepers

Joe Hart
Stuart Taylor
Gunnar Nielsen

Defenders

Aleksandar Kolarov
Vincent Kompany
Gael Clichy
Joleon Lescott
Stefan Savic
Micah Richards
Kolo Toure
Pablo Zabaleta

Midfielders

Gareth Barry
Adam Johnson
Nigel de Jong
James Milner
David Silva
Yaya Toure
Vladimir Weiss
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Denis Suárez

Strikers

Mario Balotelli
Edin Dzeko
Segio Aguero
Carlos Tevez
John Guidetti

Those who I think will miss the cut are...

Dedryck Boyata, Wayne Bridge, Greg Cunningham, Nedum Onuoha, Abdisalam Ibrahim, Abdul Razak, Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy, Roque Santa Cruz and Alex Nimely.

Rumours suggest Mancini wants to recruit at least another two players before the transfer window closes, one of which is a winger. If that is the case there is going to be a few players named on my list who are going to be well miffed.

Abdul Razak will definitely get in Mancini likes him a lot.

The likes of Boyata, Guidetti, Suarez and Savic WON'T be included in the 25 man squad, They are under 21yrs old and don't have to be included...:)

don't forget that under 21s don't count in the 25. Balotelli wasn't one of the 25 last year because of his age. I think the rule states that the player must be under 21 on 1st January prior to the season starting. There's also the requirement for 8 "home grown" players. Who's gone from last years list? Bridge, Adebeyor, Johnson(M) Vidal, Boateng, Vierra, and Jo. We've 3 new signings so far so 4 places are up for grabs.

Continued from my last post - Dzeko arrived in January so it's 3 spare places.

For Vidal in the original list - read Logan. Still a spare place. The official list from the PL website gives city's senior squad of only 23 players as: Yes/No indicates home grown or not 1 Hart, Charles Joseph John Yes 2 Given, Shay John James Yes 3 Taylor, Stuart James Yes 4 Logan, Shaleum Yes 5 Richards, Micah Yes 6 Zabaleta Girod, Pablo Javier No 7 Kompany, Vincent No 8 Boateng, Jerome No 9 Lescott, Joleon Patrick Yes 10 Toure, Kolo Abib No 11 Dzeko, Edin No 12 Kolarov, Aleksandar No 13 Johnson, Adam Yes 14 Barry, Gareth Yes 15 Toure, Gnegneri Yaya No 16 Vieira, Patrick No 17 De Jong, Nigel No 18 Milner, James Philip Yes 19 Johnson, Michael Yes 20 Jimenez Silva, David Josue No 21 Wright-Phillips, Shaun Cameron Yes 22 Tevez, Carlos No 23 Silva, Joao Alves De Assis No

There is no way I can see tevez ever pulling on a Blue shirt again, so that frees up a space up top for a start. Mario (Birthday 12th August) and Guidetti are both under 21 so don't have to be named in the 25, ditto Vlad Weiss. As things stand we should have plenty of room for new additions, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of Juan Roman, Suarez and Nimley getting some game time as they are all U21's who don't need to be named.

That's absolutely correct, an under 21 player for the upcoming 2011/12 season is one who was under 21 on 1/1/11, and that includes all of the following players (none of whom need to be included in our 25-man squad)... . Mario Balotelli - effective age 20 - dob 12/08/90 - Forward John Guidetti - effective age 18 - dob 15/04/92 - Forward Alex Nimely - effective age 19 - dob 11/05/91 - Forward Abdul Razak - effective age 18 - dob 11/11/92 - Midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim - effective age 19 - 01/05/91 - Midfielder Denis Suarez - effective age 16 - dob 6/1/94 - Midfielder Dedryk Boyata - effective age 20 - dob 28/11/90 - Defender Greg Cunningham - effective age 19 - dob 31/01/91 - Defender Stefan Savic - effective age 19 - dob 08/01/91 - Defender Unfortunately, Vladimir Weiss now does need to be included, whereas last season when we loaned him out, he didn't - typical!! So congratulations, you now have four more places to fill! By the way, including the players that I have just mentioned, I reckon we have 18 home-grown players in-and-around the first team squad. They are... HART, TAYLOR, LESCOTT, RICHARDS, BRIDGE, CLICHY, ONUOHA, JOHNSON, SWP, MILNER, BARRY, WEISS, BELLAMY, GUIDETTI, NIMELY, IBRAHIM, BOYATA, CUNNINGHAM. Obviously, not all of these will still be City players come the start of the season, but at least it's nice to know that we are well covered in this area - the rules require us to have at least 8 home-grown players! . PS. Where have all the carriage-returns gone...!!! lol

Cheers for the update Ady - for some reason comments on the front page articles don't allow you to do paragraphs...
