Tevez Secures Extended Stay Away

Carlos Tevez will not return to Manchester City training until next Monday following an extension to his rest leave that appears to suit both parties...

It could be that the representation of the man who must never again be allowed to wear the captain's armband have secured more time in the increasingly isolated bid to find the prolific striker a new club.

City boss Roberto Mancini appears publicly to be very cigar about Tevezgate but surely The Blues gaffer must be as sick and tired of the saga that began last winter with that first dreary transfer request as the fans who want the issue closed.

A summer full of intrigue and subterfuge surrounding the bridge burning player have got himself and his agent Kia Joorabchian nowhere and there was an underlying tone of reluctantance in the latter's comments to the BBC on Wednesday:

'This is Carlos Tevez we are talking about, one of the best players in the world. We are not overly worried. He wants to leave but is still a City player at the moment and we will of course respect that.'

A City spokesman said:

'Carlos has now been given extended leave so he can return on Monday, which is twenty one days after Argentina's exit from the Copa America.'

Many Blues interpret this as unwarranted preferential treatment. The kind of top dog status that the nomadic Tevez and Joorabchian would struggle to secure elsewhere in Europe. Right now erstwhile dissenters Emmanuel Adebayor and Craig Bellamy train alone whereas Tevez will train with the City squad should he return.

A large section of City's support are hoping that the far more deserving Vincent Kompany will get to be the man to lift the community shield at Wembley on Sunday should City defeat the rags again having seen Tevez lift the FA Cup in May.

But before City's biggest season for decades begins in earnest, the greater hope will be for a line to be drawn under Carlos Tevez and Kia Joorabchian's future once and for all.

Setting up a swap move for Eto'o hopefully. The Tevez saga was boring in January, now it is excruciating!

This is a Fabregas-like convenience. I'd be surprised if the captaincy issue hasn't been decided by Mancini. In pre-season the attacking options have looked more balanced without Tevez. All we need now is for Aguero to shed his cold and off we go.

I'm not sure it is preferential treatment - aside from the fact he's not had any break this summer, I'm sure Mancini doesn't actually want him around the place until he's sorted his attitude, so hopefully the snake will find him a move away in the meantime. I'm pretty confident Tevez has played his last game for us, but equally, expect him back to train once his leave is up.
