Curtain Coming Down On SWP's City Career

Curtain Coming Down On SWP's City Career

MCFC Academy legend Shaun Wright-Phillips will leave the Etihad Stadium before the month is out...

Ironically, the 29 year old England international winger has been in much improved form this pre season having previously struggled to consistently recreate the scintillating style of play for City that saw him sign for Chelsea bench duty in 2005.

Shaunie is one of the most approachable players this correspondent has ever interviewed and a thoroughly good fella. Very much one of us. We all hold precious memories of his never say die attitude and refusal to be knocked down and out. My own personal one is the howitzer of a shot he unleashed to seal a 4-1 rout of the rags in 2004.

City have given a number of Premier League clubs permission to approach Wrighty. Whoever signs him will be securing the services of a model professional.

SWP has clocked up 223 City League and Cup starts scoring 45 goals.

UPCOMING FIXTURES:

07 August 14:30: The rags, Wembley, CS
15 August 20:00 Swansea, Etihad Stadium, PL

Sad to see Shauny go ( again ) but he deserves to be playing every week. All the best Shauny wherever you end up.

:( He has had a cracking pre-season, Mancini visibly had his mind made up before it though. With Shauny leaving and Weiss going out on loan that leaves us with one natural winger (Johnson) and a couple who "can" play there but a bit awkwardly (Silva, Milner). If we're to sign another winger I'd hope it isn't Cerci as he has serious disciplinary issues.

I thought I heard Mancini state in his most recent interview that it was different with SWP. I was certain that he said that SWP could stay if he wanted to stay, but if he wanted to move on he would understand, too. Mancini said he was good in the locker room and always gives a full effort. I'm sentimental, but would love to see him stay and be part of the club even after he retires.

Love to see him stay but if he wants to go, he goes with my blessing and thanks for being a loyal club man....good luck what ever you decide Shauny...
