The last few days have seen bwin add a number of new markets ahead of the Premier League kick-off, with punters now able to bet on specials including a Wayne Rooney v Fernando Torres goalscoring head-to-head and which team will be top of the table on 1st September. However, it is likely that four markets in particular will catch the eye of football betting fans. With this in mind, bwin has put together an overview of the most viable options in its title, top-four, relegation and top goalscorer odds listings.

Premier League title betting

Manchester United go into the opening weekend of the new season as 3/2 favourites to win the 2011-12 title. The defending Premier League champions have seen their odds on title glory shorten over the course of the summer as they have added to their squad to compensate for the retirements of Paul Scholes and Edwin van der Sar. However, doubts over their ability to secure Wesley Sneijder from Inter mean that the likes of Chelsea (11/4), Manchester City (33/10), Arsenal (9/1) and Liverpool (9/1) are still in with a chance of success. Of those teams, City look the best bets, having brought in Sergio Aguero and Gael Clichy - with a deal for Samir Nasri reportedly in the pipeline - to improve on already-solid foundations. Liverpool have also spent heavily over the summer, although given the ground they have to make up the title is likely to remain out of reach.

Premier League top-four betting

With odds of 3/50 to finish in the top four, Man Utd look near-certainties to qualify for the 2012-13 Champions League. Chelsea and Manchester City look similarly entrenched with odds of 11/100 and 1/5. However, the remaining place is very much up for grabs, with Arsenal (13/20), Liverpool (11/10) and Tottenham (7/2) in the hunt. Liverpool are expected to be significantly improved on last season with club legend Kenny Dalglish having overseen pre-season preparations, while Tottenham's ability to keep hold of Luka Modric could prove crucial as they seek a return to elite European competition. However, Arsenal remain favourites to complete the top four. Boss Arsene Wenger is likely to move quickly to replace Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri if they leave the Emirates, and with a new defender also expected to arrive, the Gunners should still have enough in reserve to see off the chasing pack.

Premier League relegation betting

As is to be expected, the three teams promoted from the Championship last year are the three favourites to drop out of the top flight at the end of the season. Indeed, the clubs are even ranked in the order they came up, with play-off winners Swansea the relegation favourites with odds of 31/50. Championship runners-up Norwich are next with odds of 7/10, with Championship winners QPR available at 3/2. However, after Blackpool came so close to staying up last season and both Newcastle and West Brom survived, it could yet be worth looking at more established teams in the relegation market. Newcastle are prime suspects given the reported unrest in the dressing room and at odds of 5/1 offer attractive returns. Similarly, Blackburn (3/1) could be value bets, having lost Phil Jones to Manchester United and with doubts remaining over the future of Christopher Samba. Safer bets include Wigan (2/1) and Wolves (5/2), while Aston Villa could be good outside options at 12/1 given the players they have lost over the summer.

Premier League top goalscorer

With last year's golden boot winners apparently out of the running, Arsenal's Robin van Persie has emerged as the 7/1 favourite to score the most goals in the Premier League this season. Carlos Tevez (13/1) and Dimitar Berbatov (25/1) both scored 20 goals in the last campaign, but with Tevez angling for a move away from Eastlands and Berbatov behind Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney in the pecking order at Manchester United, they are not among the main contenders. Van Persie's chances appear to hinge on him staying fit as he actually had a better strike-rate than Tevez and Berbatov last year but only started 19 league games. However, the Dutchman is unlikely to have it all his own way even if he stays injury-free, with strong challenges expected from the likes of Hernandez (8/1), Rooney (8/1), Liverpool's Luis Suarez (10/1) and Chelsea's Fernando Torres (10/1). Indeed, as Arsenal's attack could be blunted by the loss of Fabregas and Nasri, Hernandez could yet be the best bet given his form at the end of last season. Bent is 12/1 to finish top-scorer. So punters would win £325 if they used their £25 free bet.
