Dapper City gaffer Roberto Mancini has revealed his frustration at not having completed City's summer transfer business before the big Premier League kick off...
These are cagey times as we highlighted on the last Some Might Sell. Cat and mouse stand offs continue at the highest level of European football ahead of financial restrictions yet to come and names like Tevez, Fabregas, Sneijder, Nasri and Mata continue to be stuck in an almost permanent groundhog day timewarp across sports pages with very little space being conceded by parties on both sides. Mancini groaned:
'It is not important whether you are the richest club or not. The market is difficult. I understand that...But when you have your targets, it is important to go very hard. It was important to have these players for pre-season because it is there that you prepare for the season. At the moment, we don't have these players. I asked and I hope we can have them this week.'
Is the City gaffer suggesting The Citizens hierarchy should have gone into business more boldly?
Having dismissed the big wage pursuing Wesley Sneijder as not an option, Mancio has been careful not to openly talk up France and Arsenal's Samir Nasri as the man to bolster The Blues midfield. Nasri ticks all the right boxes. A young international who is already Premier League savvy. That's gold dust in this league and City may yet have to up their ongoing bid that little bit more to satisfy the Arsenal boardroom and leave the hard working Arsene Wenger crestfallen.
Meanwhile, Mancio has confirmed his admiration for temperamental Fiorentina winger Alessio Cerci:
'He is a good, young player, who could be an option. But there are other players. We need some for the Champions League and others to complete our squad for the Premier League.'
The Etihad Stadium exit door apears to have stalled yet Mancio made a point this week of praising Shaun Wright-Phillips for his on and off the field efforts and underlined other senior players Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy and Roque Santa Cruz as being different cases.
Whether or not City will settle for what will almost surely be last minute bargain basement approaches for this trio and other cast offs in particular will be fascinating to see. The need to offload numerous players heightens with each passing day.
In other speculation, birthday boy Mario Balotelli is relentlessly linked with a move back to Italy and Carlos Tevez and Kia Joorabchian are allegedly considering asking for the Number Six shirt at City as the Argentine striker's Prisoner status draws closer to becoming confirmed...
