Nasri Still Knocking About With Arsenal

Could Arsenal's beleaguered manager Arsene Wenger be on the brink of securing the continued services of French International midfielder Samir Nasri?

The 'Little Prince of Marseille' is back in training with his Gunners team mates and Wenger had this to say this morning on the future of the gifted player:

"Ideally I want Samir Nasri to stay, but as much as we were in a strong position on the contract side with Cesc, the situation is a bit different, but hopefully we can sort the situation out."

The dreary Fabregasgate saga is almost concluded in Barcelona and the last thing misfiring Arsenal need is Nasri heading up the road to join City's continued resurgence.

French news agencies report this afternoon that the Nasri to City transfer hangs in the balance and this may yet come down to the player himself having the final say as opposed to Arsenal's boardroom who want to bank a sizeable fee.

Meanwhile, Wenger has denied any interest in signing Carlos Tevez despite various straw clutching articles knocked out by a couple of well known Arsenal favouring hacks this past weekend.

More transfer tomfoolery as we get it...

mmmm. As an Arsenal fan I really want Nasri to stay, but only if he signs a new contract. If he doesn't then Arsenal musty sell him. He is no superstar and not as good as he thinks he is. I believe though that he will get no where with City. But then like so many players that choose money over integrity, if they sit on the bench, they wont mind, as long as they get paid.

Why do you believe he will get nowhere with City Trennon? City offer a more promising opportunity to win silverware than Arsenal do.

trennon you are falling into the ususal claptrap of city=money and no silverware... just the FA Cup winners last year... and possibly more to come in the future.... and what has Arsenal won in tha last 6 years?... so your argument falls at the 1st fence.... City a team on the up, Arsenal in decline, sorry but thats Fact...

Why would Nasri sit on the bench? I'm so bored of the rent-a-quote comments that paint every signing with the same brush. Nasri would be a regular, very regular part of a team that wants him for a very important cause. City lacked goals from midfield and also over-relied on Silva for creativity last season so badly need a second attacking midfielder as most of our others are water-carrying types. The most likely scenario, at least for many games, will be Barry dropping to the bench, De Jong and Yaya holding, and two of Nasri/Silva/Johnson playing with two of Aguero/Dzeko/Balotelli (assuming Tevez leaves) or variations of that.

City played 59 games last season and the smart money has to be on more during this campaign. We need two top players for every position.

Nasri's tweets make for interesting reading this afternoon...seems like Gooner fans are forcing him out of the club even if he did have any intention of signing a new contract with them.

Cesc, Nasri, who's next? Van Persie? Wilshere? I've a feeling Wenger has really ballsed up over this issue - fair dues he desparately wanted to keep both players, but why was there no plan B? Now Arsenal are left without their only truly world class player, Nasri might leave, and there are no replacements waiting in the wings. It's a total shambles, and I just don't understand why Wenger dithered when he should have been bedding in the players he needs. If you end up losing to Udinese because of this then I suspect the faint cries for Wenger's head will turn into a cacaphony.
